Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill

Funny how Ben is the one parroting propaganda. He is focusing on the only part of it people generally don't have a problem with, rather than the vague language that leaves so much room for interpretation, which is the issue here.

Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Chapek apologized to employees at the company for the company’s handling of Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill and said that it would be pausing political donations in the state. Chapek also said that the company will be “increasing our support for advocacy groups to combat similar legislation in other states.”

I'm gay I was never taught about gay people in school all the way through high school it was just something you learned outside of school. I do think it would be beneficial to society for kids to be taught to respect people whose families are different than their own and people who are different than they are but leave it at that until they are actually old enough to understand what's being taught.

Kids should be allowed to be kids, they don't need these heavy issues that they won't really understand being taught to them at such a young age. The bill should be more specific for sure but I don't think it's really all that problematic from what I've read and it also talks about teaching gender identity not just about sexual orientation.

I don't understand the bill (haven't read it), does it say that people can't say the word gay? That's an odd bill lol
Also, it's great that the universally gifted Hollywood celebs speak out on these issues via Twitter, they absolutely seems like the best spokespersons for the ordinary people growing up.
I'm sure most of them have their kids in kindergarten with the rest of the 2-3 job working adults.

Doesn’t explicitly say that, but the language is intentionally vague so that it will be an issue. If a kid has two mothers, or two fathers, they will not be able to talk about their parents in school, and the vague language makes it possible that those parents can be barred from school activities.

Violating freedom of speech?

It’s not like they’re gonna go out and explicitly teach said things, but if theirs social clubs that just talk, celebrate, embrace or help those who struggle with figuring things out will be considered illegal. It’s like saying you can’t talk about working out or do any physical activity or club because it considered illegal but really a forbidden taboo someone’s beliefs.m

People with any recognition will speak out, be it political, royalty, celebrity, anyone with a capability of communicating beyond their inside voice and be heard, especially if they’re in or part of said community.

But I dono, I’m no expert, I’m just saying….

A kid should be able to say he has two mothers or two fathers, I don't think anyone is for anyone getting deeper into that until after the kids are old enough to understand. We all knew our friends had a mother and a father but as young children that's all that really meant, we had no idea about that nasty sex stuff until later lol.

I don't see how this needs a bill but I also don't think kids need to be taught about being gay specifically until they are old enough to comprehend what that means, all they need to be taught is that they should respect everyone no matter who it is until they are given a real reason not to.

Dono bout you but sex-ed was taught in fourth grade at the elementary school I went to. And there were more during middle school. One instructor was like “here’s a box you can put any questions, just don’t write your name on it”, I think it was sixth or seventh grade, and she answered all of them.

Kids now a days know so much more than we think they know.

i didn’t know I was a boob person until seventh grade, I was like “impressive” but things rounded out in high school lol

When the left does stuff like this, it is called "virtue signaling", but when the right does it, that term never gets used for some reason.

The right is manufacturing a culture war, because they know on actual politics that they can't win, since they have no real stance on any actual issue. Their idea for the economy is supply side economics. More tax cuts for the rich that they say will "trickle down". Republicans tried coming up with a health care plan, and it was so bad, their own people made them trash it before it ever saw a vote.

Honestly, considering Amerika gets all riled up of a little nip-slip and seems to think that children gets traumatized of seeing nipples on TV, I'm surprised this thing wasn't already implemented.

The thing is, in reality the majority of people aren't super religious or uptight, but it is the vocal minority that just manufacture these issues. Church membership in the US is rapidly declining.

There's this narrative/fear that schools are somehow brainwashing kids into one thing or another. They think that people are "straying" from the church because of stuff like this, but not realizing that in reality people are just tired of their hate and fear mongering.

These church groups play the victim, but in reality are pushing people away with their culture war.

Really? how old are you if you don't mind me asking? we didn't have sex ed until freshman year of high school when I went to school. My freshman year was 1987/1988 and before that we weren't taught anything, of course you learn about sex from talking to friends etc so we knew how it all worked before the actual class was given. Funny thing was the cover of our high school yearbook that year had a baby Viking on it (our school's mascot was a viking) because we had 5 pregnant girls in school that year and the administrators who signed off on the cover didn't get the joke lol.

I don't think 5-8 year old kids should be taught anything about sex or reproduction they should just be taught that family is important and that we should respect everyone else's families even if they look different than our own.

I don't believe it's about church with most people, as you said most people are turning away from church anyway. I think it has to do with people wanting to feel like they have some say in what's being taught to their kids and when. I know there are some who do it just to be a******s and others who just want their kids to be allowed to enjoy their childhood without all of this heavy stuff being put on them so young.

I'd hate to be growing up right now, a kid a the elementary school my sister works at was almost suspended for making a "pee pee" joke in front of a girl. The fact that they consider that sexual harassment at that age is insane, neither kid comprehends what that even means.

There is a culture war element you are right but I also don't think this needs to be a fight, kids that age shouldn't really be taught anything other than respect and not to call people names etc. If a parent wants to have a talk like that with their kid that's up to them. I can see doing that in middle school but let kids in elementary school keep their innocence for as long as possible, the world will rob them of it soon enough.

I'm offended that you use my ancestors in that way. You should burn those yearbooks and blacklist all those involved.
Our "rival" school across town had a Bear as their mascot, when our football teams played they had to have the games at a community college a couple of cities over because it would get a bit rowdy and because neither high school had enough seating for all the people that showed up. You would see cars going through the parking lot with teddy bears being drug behind them with ropes around their necks lol. I can't tell you how many drawings were done in art classes with a viking killing a bear.

BTW Here is what the yearbook looked like :p

I know at my high school we had some known pregnant teens. When a dance would be on approach they’d have flyers saythings to wear protection or wait (also at church).

In middle school there was a hand full of kids who got pregnant as well.

In elementary I know parents were given the option for their kids to skip it, as well as in middle school. I just remembered one kid who skipped it thought babies came out the butt lol

I honestly dono when a kid should be taught it. It’s up to how open the parents choose on when to teach. Hell some parents seem to rather pass it off until the learn it on their own, by any means or mode (again I dono).

Growing up with paintings or seeing statues at museums when not on a school trip was one way to learn. I guess I was wel informed of what was what from a young age, so when my friends would show me sites online I was like “neat” but not anime nose bleed “woah”.

Those ages do seem young, especially since they’re not going through puberty. My gf said she started in the tail fourth grade, to develop. Hmmm wonder if she can turn into a panda.

I dono where I’m going with this lol I’m about to collapse into a food coma.

I had it in fifth grade, in a Catholic school.

I would have been the same year as you and I don't remember if I ever had sex ed. I know I would have signed up for the lab.
