75in Sony 900H TV. Was $1500 (before tax) but for the budget and feature set it seemed like the best I could find.
It's got

4k 120hz
1200nits (same as my old, almost 5 year old Samsung)
Full array backlit
VRR
Dolby Vision and Atmos
Some kind of special processor, lol

Won't get here till the 18th tho 😫

Did Sony finally push out the update for VRR support?

When I was researching for a new TV that supports both VRR & 120hrz I found that many of Sony's new 2021 TVs said they support both. But in fact none have support for VRR but is due to come via firmware update in the future. Last time I checked that update has not been released yet. I was wondering if Sony was waiting to release that update at the same time they release the VRR update for the PS5, which like their TVs do not support that feature yet. At least not when I checked.

Did you used to have the Samsung KS8000?
Still do. It's the KS8500 (curved screen). I'll move it to my bedroom wall, lol. Great TV, but it doesn't support 120fps gaming and doesn't do VRR.

Doesn't have Atmos or Dolby Vision. I've been waiting for an upgrade to be worth it in feature set.

I hope so as it's listed in the feature set

That was the issue, stated but not provided and only with the promise that it'll come in a future update. I don't know if that update has rolled out yet. But when I was checking back in March there were plenty of complaints about false advertisement on Sony's part because the update had not yet been distributed.

Well at least it's 4k 120. I did see that that had been enabled

That's the gaming TV I use.
That makes me feel better, lol. You do seem to pay a lot of attention to that stuff. Just from a feature list (at a good price anyway), I can't find anything to compare. I looked at the P-Series and after some digging, it looks like it's really not that great. It would have been my next choice though, because the size/value/feature combo.

How does the new TV compare for 4k? I think about getting a new TV sometimes but the KS8000 looks so freaking good

Yeah, that's great. And I've read really good reviews about the 900H and it was one I was zeroing in on until I read that VRR has yet to make an appearance. But apparently its got great picture quality with really low input lag.

I've never gamed at 120hrz so I have no idea how much of an impact it has. But there was a time when I thought 30fps was good enough only to recently experience 60fps and how transformative it really is.

You will like it and it's great for gaming.
For the price a better set cannot be purchased.

VRR isn't on ANY Sony TV and currently not on the PS5.
I think when PS5 gets it the TV will.

Yes, I know. Which is baffling and misleading to see Sony continue to advertise a feature that their TVs don't have.

As a console gamer VRR support is more important to me than 120hrz simply because not all games are locked at 60fps yet. VRR would smooth things out and get rid of tearing which is distracting.

No just no.
120hz is a much much bigger deal than VRR and I know it's your opinion but it's off man.
On the 900H 120hz has 6.5ms input lag.. no amount of VRR feels smoother than this.
You can't come with angle that the support won't be there either as it is now and continues to grow.

VRR is supposed to come this year as Sony would not be able to handle the backlash/lawsuits if it didn't.

I trust Japanese brands/Sony to keep there word on promised features over most others.

Doesn't 120hrz gaming lower the resolution? At least, that's what I was told at a Best Buy that had a kiosk set-up displaying Dirt 5 on XSX at 120hrz. I asked why it looked off to me and the employee replied that gaming at that high framerate output lowers the resolution. As he put it, its a tradeoff for faster refresh rate but comes with a lower resolution.

And....yes & yes Sony is straight up lying to people by continuing to advertise a feature their TVs have yet to get.

It can because of limitations with these consoles/PC but in some cases (Gears 5 and Destiny 2 look great) Plus future software/hardware will improve.

It's been taking them longer than other companies to deliver on these promises but we can't say they are lying unless they never come.
Panasonic is also having issues launching with these features because of the Mediatek chip.
It's tentative 2021.

Wow, you're way more charitable than I. If I pay over 1k for a TV I expect to have all the features they advertised as being available when I receive the TV. VRR is listed as a feature so no reason to believe its not there until you do some digging to find out its not.

Just look at Frozpot who mistakenly believed his new TV did indeed have VRR since its a listed feature. But the reality is his new set will not have VRR support and there's no ETA on when it'll arrive. That's pure false advertising which is disappointing since I've had Sony TVs for so long and wanted to stick with the brand. I still do and hope their TVs will get the VRR support soon so I can purchase one.

HDMI 2.1 is new and having issues with everything including AVR's.
It's a promised feature.

It's not false advertising unless they don't deliver 🤷‍♂️

You don't understand how new tech works.

I will continue to enjoy low input lag/120 fps gaming on my 900H.
Hmmm, its true I don't have a deep understanding of how tech works. But I do understand that you don't state that a particular product has a certain feature when in fact it does not. It not like Sony states on their feature list "VRR to arrive at a later date". Nope, its listed as an available feature right out of the box. Just go on Reddit and you'll find a whole thread of people who are unhappy about this bait and switch from Sony.

You sure can and it has happened with other TV's.

Reddit? It makes sense now lol

Man, I can't wait to get the new TV in. Was playing Battlefield 4 campaign and was having a good time. Too bad the res is so bad, but it's still a pretty game. Impressive even some times. That first level still has some of the best explosions in gaming. The helicopter and collapsing building were excellent too. At least there won't be a downgrade to get 120fps.

I also like to practice flying the helicopters in the test range, lol. Suckers are hard...
I can't play BF4 in last gen resolutions.

If they would enhance it soon, I would play it again.
