Game reviews?

I used to watch angry joe and boogie but um I lost touch with ganes for a while so I’ve stuck to reviews from ign, euro gamer, edge (the mag I fought for and made a presentation at my school to convince them subscribe) and easy allies.

But I’ll compare reviews from all for a game that I intended to purchase to get insight of the game and of their own.

I too would be interested in seeing what others would recommend.

Reading recent player's reviews on stream is the best so far. I scan through the likes, then the dislike. After a few review, you get an understamd what people like or dislike about a game.

Games review from IGN or Gamespot are hit & miss, base on reviewers, as well as if they are qualified for reviewing certain genres. If I want to know a racing game or fighting games, for instance, it's better to get reviews from channels that know these games.

Some game journalists (I am being generous) are also very unprofessional) & involve their private lives, preferences, ideology & politics in the reviews like criticized not enough "diversity" in games like Kingdom come that took place in 17th century Cech republic.

Being 100% honest, I'll look at people here posting about it over any so called "professional" review.

The one thing I look at isn't the reviews, but if there's a review embargo. Is the video game company not allowing any early reviews before launch? That's a huge red flag. Any limits on reviews? Cyberpunk allowed reviews, but didn't allow any new footage to be shown. In hindsight, another big red flag.

It is fine for companies to hold reviews until just before release to build hype of course, that's common. Seeing reviews before launch tells me a lot about the game, more then the review itself. That tells me that the company has enough faith in it to put it out there.

The #1 thing though? Don't pre-order. Games usually drop on a Tuesday, so wait until Wed-Thurs. If there are issues, you'll find them out the easy way instead of the hard way.

Take anything you see "early" with skepticism. I was just reading an article about how the Wonder Woman movie reviews were really good... before the public got to see it, then after, the ratings tanked like 30% on rotten tomatoes. That same thing happens in video games. Reviewers want the early copy, so they review it more favorably.

You're not a ganer anymore.

Same. I bought Immortal Fenyx because of here and other forums. Never read a single review for it.

But if I do look at a review, it's Eurogamer. They have the best reviews and are not biased like IGN and Gamespot.

Now days I just Google "<game name> reddit". That's more reliable than game sites I think.

I'm not looking for a great ux, I'm just looking to read a review or two.

When I can't figure out how to read the UX, I can't find what I am looking for :). But I do see a lot of focus on upvoting and downvoting, which is annoying. Seems that is what people talk about more often.

Hm, I haven't had that experience. But I also don't generally play the newest games so maybe I just don't see it.

For any online/live service games, things get pretty toxic pretty quick. It might be different for single player games where there's less stuff going on.

Easy Allies - I agree with their reviews 80% of the time from the games I've played.

Once you realized the subreddit are echo chamber where you are ONLY ALLOW to say positive things about the subject matters, you will be less frustrated with a lack of critical thinking/objectivity. The Key is to have expectations.

The official forum is usually better but depends on the game as well.
