I recently played a bit of Stubbs the Zombie for millionth time and I gotta say, that game still holds up nicely. It's very fun and I love the wacky zombie violence. Shame more games weren't made with the first Halo engine. The physics are definitely there and I love it. Sending guys up high into the air during the vehicle portions are very fun. Shame there aren't more zombie games like this. This would've made for an awesome open world game if done right. Wish someone could at least make their own version of Stubbs.

Despite its old visuals and lack of native wide screen support, games like Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape torment etc.....they hold up well.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Basically, browse the catalog at GOG. :)

I haven't checked recently to see if it's still the case, but the original Elder Scrolls games were free online from the official Elder Scrolls site too - I'm on a very unambitious playthrough right now of Arena, in the sense that once or twice every couple of months I play for a while.

That is some of my favorite games right there, Planescape Torment there has not been anything like that ever since (the world is best world within gaming I have experienced). And Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 that was what got me into rpgs. Fallout 1 and 2 some of the few games that I played more then once after completing them (did same with Baldurs Gate 2), Awesome games.

Secret of Mana. It's still beautiful, and I still need to find the ROM :(:(:(:(

I'm going to disagree with the Planescape Torment. Good game. Aged not so well.

Visually, or game play wise?

OP asked which games held up well, and it certainly does. Maybe not visually, but a great game remains great despite visuals.

For example....the original Ghost Recon does not hold up well. I challenge anyone to go back to playing it, and really say that they still enjoy it. I loved it back in the day, tried it not too long ago, and was bored to tears. Looking past the visuals, the game just felt old and rusty. I rebought PT, and despite it's visuals, I was enjoying the game all over again.

CoD! No game has such a everlasting online community. If it wasn't for god mode hackers, I bet CoD 4 and WaW would hit the tail end of the top 20 list Major nelson churns out.

I was thinking all around for the most part. To each their own, but I was thinking mostly gameplay, drama/humor, but visuals are certainly an important part of anyone's overall experience. The game I mentioned, Stubbs the Zombie, may not win visual awards, past, present, and future, but it has a nice 50s theme to it that keep the game interesting enough for me to enjoy exploring levels and soaking up the world.

Man I could get name quite a few that still play great. The sixth generation of consoles had so many games that I still play or revisit regularly. 3d gaming was really coming into its own and it appeared to me that companies just took more risk's or tried new things.

Stubbs
Otogi/2
Psychonauts
Oddworld Strangers Wrath
Destroy All Humans
Phantom Dust
Half-Life
Doom 3
Fable
Jet Grind Radio

Just a small sample from the Xbox but could go on for quite awhile lol

Bitch, you breaking out lists? Some good ones in there too. Gonna chip in:
- Silent Hill
- Conkey's Bad Fur Day
- The Suffering
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Star Wars Republic Commando
- Worms 3D
- Call of Cthulu
- The Punisher
- Max Payne
- State of Emergency
- House of the Dead III
- Voodoo Vince

I would that Psychonauts and Voodoo Vince are two of my favorite games out of the two lists. Just fun and unique 3D platformers.

I guess it all boils down to opinion. I have it installed and recently started a new playthrough (thanks GOG). Yeah, the visuals are horrid now.....incredibly horrid, but the game itself is so good, that visuals "for me" in this case really doesn't affect the overall experience. It's like, literally the 1st few minutes think..."ugg, this is ugly", but then quickly stop thinking about the visuals.

By the way, I use the widescreen mod, so while the game is still fugly, it's not "as" fugly as running in its native res.
