H1Z1: Sony's new MMO zombie game

DC Universe, Planetside 2 and Landmark (even in beta) are all quality games, but you are obviously just here to troll.

Yep, just here to troll my little heart out. God forbid my opinion isn't the same as yours  Oh, and Planetside 2 sucks, as does everquest, dragon prophet, and payday, but hey, SOE make awesome games:laugh:

We get it, you don't like anything Sony does.

Yeah, exactly, I mean it isn't like I praised the crap out of Infamous second son or anything, or praised Last of Us either, or spent the whole of last gen lauding Motorstorm 2 as the best Arcade racer ever....I'm such a naughty troll.

You're not fooling anyone.

I hear it's coming to Steam early access in about 6 to 8 weeks, in alpha/beta form. So maybe we'll get some impressions then. I'll move this to the MP/PC forum, since it'll probably be PC-only for a while. Hopefully it won't take too long to reach PS4. I'd like to give a try.
Let the hype begin. :p

DayZ has been a big letdown for me. Looking forward to this. Heck, even 7 days to die has been a more enjoyable experience than dayZ.

I know the pc version will be first out, i hope the ps4 version doesnt take to long to get released, I am really interested in this on my ps4. I would get on steam for my pro 2 but not sure how it would run on it. I have been interested in DayZ but since the game isnt finished yet i dont think its worth it at this time.

Some more info on the game:

- Very deep crafting game.
- Very hard, challenging game.
- Same engine as Planetside 2, "magnitudes bigger" than PS2
- PS4 version "decided," but not scheduled
- Multiple servers with very different rule sets
- Trading
- Livestream next week
- Beta access in about 5 or 6 weeks

"When asked how this game will be different from games like RUST or DayZ, Smedley once again reiterated that it’s a world and can host thousands of players at once. The frame-rate is stable, and the game allows players to build forts, mod weapons, and even interact with the environment such as torching a field (and other players). Unlike DayZ, in the current build of the game, when you die, you spawn with all your equipment, though this may change in the final build."

"Everyday life in the Apocalypse means dealing with all kinds of wild animals and the brutality of other survivors, as well as finding your next meal and a safe place to sleep."

"We are giving players the tools to make their own towns, camps and defenses, and they can decide how to set up their base (which is in the world btw… not instanced)."

"One of the best things about H1Z1 being an MMO is the fact that with a lot of people playing, we’re able to see all different kinds of gameplay. If you prefer a quiet life as a farmer raising crops… we’re going to make sure your zombie apocalypse fantasy is complete. If you’re like me and you want nothing more than to kill everything that moves, by all means see how that goes."

I'm in for a Union fort whenever it gets released on the PS4. We shall defend it and only let Union members in.

Yeah, or else we'll have arguments about who to let in and who not to. Our own version of the Walking Dead.

I'm glad to hear you respawn with your gear (at least so far). I may be wrong, but I think the way it works in Day Z is that the killer gets your gear. I think that setup would provide too much incentive to turn on each other. It would be really hard to trust anyone for very long -- it would only be a matter of time before someone ganked you. So you couldn't get a group working together for any length of time (e.g., to build a fort or protect a farming area). Retaining your gear after death sounds like a better setup, at least to me.

I can see the potential for fun here. So much depends on the way they balance it, though. On the upside, they do seem very open to input.

The Planetside 2 engine is great at having hundreds of people fighting it out in the same area and the scale the game will be capable of is probably what is going to set it apart from DayZ, Rust and the other open world survival games.

But I have to say, they better overhaul the vehicle physics and handling. PS2 vehicles are incredibly bland to drive and have barely any physics to them, which works ok in PS2 but might not be as enjoyable in this.

Dead Rising does so well on the Xbox It just seem's like Sony wanted their own version of it. I'm disappointed personally, not the kind of game I enjoy playing. Personal opinion of course.

This is a free to play MMO, it's not even in the same genre as Dead Rising 3. And seeing as games take multiple years to develop, this game has probably in development long before Dead Rising 3 was ever announced. Comparing this to Dead Rising is like comparing Madden to Call of Duty because they both take place in the present day.

Also it's coming on the PC first. It's not a response to dead rising at all.

Huh? I could've sworn Smedley said if you are killed, you respawn with all your gear.

There will be different servers with different setups, so maybe it'll be respawns in some, permadeath in others?

I don't know about that. Even if Sony is copying MS, wouldn't it be more of a reaction to State of Decay? The plan for that was release SP game first and then a MMO or some kind of ambitious co-op game.

Free to play...DayZ type game with Rust atmosphere? I'd give this a go. Sorry, but I still love zombies. I'm not tired of it.

I wanted to try DayZ, but I'm not paying that much for a buggy early access game.

This, I'll try.

This is something that would certainly appeal to me. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

I'm interested if it will have controller support.
(DCUO and Planetside 2 do, so fingers crossed)

Live stream tonight, 6pm central:

The game looks okayish, but I'd rather have a new Left 4 Dead game. This game just doesn't look that interesting and definitely does not look scary.

Looks early still but already better than dayz imo. I'm just not sure melee can work in any Mmo environment. Doesn't look or feel right. We'll see though.

Only four months of development showed a bit in that stream. That said, I think it looks promising, but there's a long way to go. My primary concern is how barren the world looked, maybe it'll be better when players get in.

The game has only been in development 4 months?
