There are delays in the best of times to mature developers with tenured creative leads using mature game engines and tools focusing on one set of established hardware. We are not in the best of times. The APIs and devs kits came in late. The current creative leads weren't at the studio for the entire development cycle. Some key ones came in only a year ago. They are developing for 2 generations of consoles and PC. Aiming to be at the launch of a new one. Using a rebuilt game engine. All this during a pandemic which impacts the efficiencies of big teams. Especially AAA game production due to it's reliance on mo-cap and resources that are out of the studios hands.

There probably is many reasons for why Halo Infinite is behind schedule. Some of those in the hands of the current 343 employees. Some not. Either way, if delays can happen to the best during the best of times, we should wait on results before going overboard chastising this studio employees during tough times.

Being stuck working on a 100 down/10 up connection over a slow vpn is a nightmare. If a game comes out with a massive patch, my 100mb connection will handle it no problem, but throw in 2 way communication over a vpn and it slows way down. I have to plan all my tasks around making sure any copies run overnight.

A lot of people don't understand that many of us have exactly one option for high speed internet.

I have a nightly task that runs on one of our servers that had a step that takes maybe 15 seconds to copy about 1.4 million product rows into memory (to generate a csv to upload to azure for user in other integrations). On 1GB fiber it was taking 15 minutes thorough the VPN, and that's during a relative downtime. It would generally take under a minute in office on the same laptop.

We do have crazy server bandwidth and crazy in office internet, but it's essential to what we do. Probably same for any major game developer. We don't have that at home, ever.

Dat Xbox One anchor

Id argue that the game was not designed as a Series X game. It was going to be a One X game, imo. It's been in development since 2015. Most of that work (Planning and engine development) was done long before they had anything close to finished hardware.

Yeah... but honestly, one X could do better than what was shown lol
I saw quite a bit there that was beyond the Xbox One X. But the thing is, it was MIXED with stuff that could be seen on the 360. I don't think we are going to see that the game is some mind blowing graphically intensive game. The game was designed to be more open world, lots of AI, lots of vehicles, lots of weapons, split screen, multiplayer.

If it was a linear single player only game with substantially reduced AI/NPCs, weapons, vehicles and the like, then sure they could put all their pixels in like 5 characters, with just a bullet or arrow on the screen instead of needlers sparking throughout.

Eh, Open world at 4k 60fps? It's hard to say that when we don't know the scope of the game. People are really over-negging the visuals, imo.

Agreed. There is a reason that it's mostly sports games that are 4K 60fps.

Agree with everything but the 360 comment. Not sure what you think looks like the 360. Seriously, if they threw more post-processing in there, people would be dazzled, lol. It was too clean. Honestly my biggest let down was the lack of systems like wind that would add a lot of life to the scene.

There is a world of difference in lighting and polycount. fine detail too.

I agree with you as well for the most part.

Seeing Halo be delayed proves that it wasn’t ready for release, let alone a game showcase. But we had folks in the community claiming it looked good.

I've been saying this for a while but after Halo Infinite releases, Microsoft should really let 343i work on something else not Halo related. If nothing else, let their creative juices flow in a different direction. That did wonders for Guerilla Games.

I liked the return to that art style. But obviously I didn't realize the deeper issues at 343i until afterwards. I think that describes a few of us.

I'm not trolling. I hate the excuses and damage control anytime there's an issue with Xbox...

In a thread you literally just started participating in this afternoon (!) you're apparently somehow overwhelmed with excuses and damage control. But, yes, this is awesome content:

From the same guy who says:
Yea. They have more games. lol

The point you can't rely on either to not delay games. Trying to critcize one over the other is hypocritical.

But, of course, then the conversation is Sony delaying so many more games and so criticizing that is hypocritical, but now that MS has delayed this game you come crawling out of the sewer to share your 'insight' above. It's trash posts, and if you don't want to call it trolling I suppose I'll agree, since you're clearly not putting any effort into making a quality or entertaining post.

No s***? Isn’t that what delays are for? Lol. TLOU2 was delayed a few times because it wasn’t ready as well because of Covid and logistics.

Maybe I am wrong and don’t know what it means to delay a game. I assumed because it’s not ready lol

I wonder what monster is gonna do with all the halo infinite energy drinks or nerf guns that may get out in the open and spoil the story...wonder who else had advertisement ties with the game ?

Oh I'm sure MEGA BLOCKS is going to spoil the whole campaign.

If anything, it might be the multiplayer that delayed things, as they clearly had nothing to even talk about, let alone show.
