That's a pity. Hellboy is a fun comic that's indie in the sense that Mike Mignola has full artistic freedom to do what he wants, but it's not overly pretentious or self-serious, trying to be highbrow.
The movies captured it perfectly. And Ron Perlman really fit the role, physically, plus he can act.

Yeah that's to bad. Hellboy 2 was maybe a little to quirky at first, but I enjoyed it as the movie progressed.
It's strange because Hellboy seemed to face issues that I expected of THOR which was mixing science and fantasy.
I did like the addition of that Krauss character and his weird, almost creepy abilities.
If Hellboy 3 doesn't happen, I would like to see Del Toro try either other indy comic adaptions or get into the Anime to Live action trend I think may pick up after Ghost in the Shell.
Maybe Del Toro could do something plenty weird like MadMan
