I really don't understand why we are not allowed to actually turn off the PS4. It's annoying having to always unplug the thing when it's is standby mode.

Turning off the power completely

When the system turns off completely, the screen turns off, the power indicator blinks white, and then turns off.

There are three methods available to turn the PS4 system off:

  • From the Dynamic Menu's Home Screen, press UP on the d-pad to bring up the Function Screen. Then select (Power) from the function screen, and choose [Turn Off PS4].
  • Press and hold the PS button for at least 1 second, and then select [Turn Off PS4] on the screen that is displayed.
  • Touch the power button on the front of the PS4 for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice).

There is an option to turn it off.

Hold PS button or whatever it's called and select Turn off... I think. If I remember it's in the same area that you would put it in Standby.

Edit: or what Intelli said

You can get there using the XMB, just scroll all the way to the right to where it says power, it's the bottom option.

What do you mean? There is an option to turn it completely off and it specifically mentions it is primarily for when you want to unplug your Console.

I always turn my PS4 off unless I know some new games or updates are coming out and I want to download automatically or from my phone. I don't see how anyone would be confused on how to power off the console, seems rather self evident.

Really? I just don't understand how someone wouldn't know how to turn off their PS4, unless they didn't really own one.
You got me. I don't actually have a PS4 and didn't realize pressing the power button turns it off.

I also don't understand how you didn't know how to turn it off. If you were putting it in standby already like you said, you would automatically know how to turn it off because it gives you the option to either turn it off or put it in standby every time you put it in standby.

Is this a foreign PS4?

I'm so confused.

You just proved you don't own a PS4 or know how it operates. Congrats. ;)

He's talking about when you put it in standby when holding the home button on the controller. It gives you the option to turn off as well as standby there.

But you skimmed past the part where he is saying that is the one and only way to put it in standby mode. ;)

Or maybe everyone here realizes that Kassen pretty much sounds like an idiot for not knowing how to turn off his console.

well there's that too... :)

(turn off that is... Not the idiot part)

Oh come on now I actually own three. I never said that was the only way to put it in standby, but it is certainly the most simple way.

You actually did. Right here:

And it is definitely not the most simple way to put the console in standby. Tapping the power button is the simplest way, and that was my dilemma-ish. I was confused on how to turn it off since hitting the power button just wouldn't do it for me, even if I held it down for a bit.

Really you are accusing me of lying because I didn't know of your more complicated way that apparently doesn't include the option to turn off your console?

Not when you are on the couch. Getting up to hit the power button is no more simpler than getting up to change the channel. Let's keep arguing about how you didn't know how to turn off your console some more... :p
