I have an old Desktop HP a520n that I think finally needs to be retired. The power supply is acting very erratically and the hard drive is going. Also, it is so freakin old.

Out of curiousity, I looked it up and the introduction date for the a520n was 2004.

It originally came with WinXP and 1 GB of Ram lol.

Just thought it was interesting a computer lasts that long these days. Also, deciding what to do with it. Is it still a good idea to pull the RAM and save it? I'll probably drop it off for recycling otherwise.

what do you want to save the RAM for? to make a necklace?

The RAM isn't worthless, there is a little bit of gold on there. But unless you've got a few hundred sticks of it and don't mine messing with a few chemicals you're not going to harvest what's there. So, I would suggest pawning it off on someone who knows nothing about PCs on craigslist & if you can't find a buyer there, take it to your local scrap yard. But don't do it all in one piece, separate the mobo, the ram, the CPU and pull and copper out of the thing (hidden all over the place), and also any aluminum (heatsinks and what not). Then you will make a few cents on each individual portion (even the power cord) instead of getting ripped off for being lazy and them giving you a mixed metal price.

Don't ever just toss something in the trash, or I'll be quick to pull up in retrieve it.
