Joining the Master Race, on the Cheap

Yeah, I saw that. Interesting.

My thoughts:
  • If I were to go PC, I'd want the machine to be very superior to console performance. Otherwise, I'd rather just stick with consoles. So I'm sure I'd want a more powerful version. What's the point of being in the master race if you're just marginally better?
  • It doesn't include the time it would take me to research how it all works and what components to buy.
  • I am a tech noob, so I'd want to pay someone to put it together for me.
It was interesting to see them be able to build a decent unit for console prices, though.

You can upgrade components later and in the meantime you have access to a huge library of games not available on either console. If only MS had made the xone component upgradable, things would be much better, overall.

So are PC gamers the new peasants seeing as how it's cheaper to make a gaming PC than it is to buy an X1?

Just know it can actually be cheaper in the long run as the deals on games are amazing especially the steam/amazon ones 4 example.
Also you don't have to sit at a desk and you can hook it up to your large screen HD TV and Surround Sound Receiver like I do in your living room and use a wireless kb/mouse combo with many games having controller support these days.

If you choose you time to build well you can do far better. I would imagine Black Friday would be a good time for Americans to jump in.
Possibly, a sale on a decent gpu could happen but I don't often see a lot of high end stuff on sale at this time. Prices are always dropping though so its always good and bad to buy I guess.

Of course. This was just an exercise to show it could be done. Both builds are decent mid-range gaming rigs.

Still think PC and one of the consoles would be the best of both worlds since you can play the best version of multiplatform games and console exclusives.
