The only reason not to go 1.85:1/16X9 was to make it look different, IMO. I see lots of fools on Twitter arguing that they are showing more and this was how it was originally intended, but the reality is that shooting movies in an open frame is common, and most aren't shown this way. Terminator 2 used the open frame area for viewing on 4:3 TVs, as opposed to cropping of the sides. What's weird, is that people keep saying that this is like IMAX, but IMAX is 1.43:1. This is 1.33:1/4X3, and is literally like watching WandaVision episodes 1&2. Very strange choice.
At least I have a projector screen big enough for this to be negligible, but then I also think that every time I watch a 2.4 Cimemascope movie.... edit: which was invented to bring people back to the theaters! I just thought about the fact that that this is basically the format that like every old TCM movie from the 30s and 40s is in. I don't mind it, but people are out there acting like this is so innovative.

It's been approved for limited imax screenings at a later date but yeah it will put people off.

Wait, the way the picture was on the trailer will be how the final movie is presented? If so that’s distracting as hell wtf!?

Except it wasn't filmed in IMAX, nor is it the resolution of IMAX. It will also ironically have to be cropped for IMAX, since it's 1.33:1 (4:3), while IMAX is a lil wider, at 1.43:1... just saying.
Snyder had changed which ratio he shot the film in about 9 times now
I was actually planning on cancelling mine after this released, but my buddy just offered to split it with me. Paid six months up front so I'm locked in for the long term.
I will say that HBO Max has an awesome catalog. Best in the biz for movies.
Saw on r/movies that some people were able to watch the whole thing. Don't know if that's actually true or not, but they don messed up either way.
