Larian - Game subscription services becoming dominant would be bad for both gamers and devs alike

As a supplement I think it would be good but not main. Otherwise we are going to get lots more shovelware and shows being pushed onto the service with more quantity but less quality i.e. Netflix , Amazon Prime etc. Too many shows that aren't all that great.

Playstation is already doing that. So...

That Shovelware many are now desperately hoping get ported...

Subscriptions aren't taking over anyway. Not sure why people always have to assume the worst.

Sub services can work great for a lot of people, but other gamers may only play a few big games each year and are better off buying.

Think of how many gamers out there just play COD/Fifa and maybe one or two other games. Game pass makes sense for me just because I play so many games and easily get my value out of it, but it doesn't work for everyone.

More press OTT nonsense. At no point has it looked like Subscriptions would be the end game. Just an option.

They have consistently released GOTY nominees every year since 2013. They are doing it right 👍
OK, but why hold MS to a different standard? I think what MS is releasing on GP is good quality.

If you want to own a game, there's a way to do that.

I don't care about owning a game. Usually, once a play through a game, I'm done. Even if there's DLC 3-6 months later, I rarely fire that game up again. So, Game Pass makes sense for me. I've bought games based on Game Pass when a game was removed, for example Nier. I played a free trial of Immortals and wound up buying that.

Game Pass is just 1 option.

He is too used to the overhyped playstation stuff. The games aren't anywhere near as good as the media like to make out.

Playstation was great, but the PS4 & 5 show this company is massively declining. They offer lower quality, less diversity, and less creativity than ever before.

People still go about about MS 2022 offerings. Still released more games than Sony did last year but crickets.

Also, I've bought BG3 on Steam. So, I still buy games. Game Pass is just an added value for me, a choice.

I'm also able to share my Game Pass with my nephew because I'm the home console owner on his XBox. That's just more added value.

I'm also not paying retail subscription price. I'm usually able to get a good deal through CDKeys.

I think they've been fine, but you see it differently.

They have been lacking latter half of X1 to beginning of XS but hitting more of it's stride now especially after acquisition of the two behemoths IMO of course.

Devolver believes in "selling games first" over day 1 launches on subscriptions & large-scale game dev "crushing under its own weight a little bit.
