Last Gen Vs Next Gen = Next Gen not worth it (Last Gen currently better)

Really disappointed with the Next Gen Consoles currently or possibly the games just currently out for the system. Yes Next Gen games look better but gameplay is really the same and hasn't really innovated.

I bought a PS4 and sold it after the horrible Killzone. Now I just got an Xbox One and I can't believe how disconnected I feel as a gamer. I could have sworn when I first got my Xbox 360 or even Xbox there was all kind of demos and games released for the system. This Xbox One throws a media hub in your face and puts your games last from what it seems.

Where's that killer AAA title? I mean I really like BF4 but you can buy that on PS3/Xbox. yes the graphics are not as good but still descent and the gameplay is the same. I think I'm not really happy with these next gen consoles and will be going back to Ps3.

Uncharted seriers, Last of Us and all of the multiple 3rd party games, yes the graphics are not that good but gameplay is good and there are several games to choose from. Maybe next year when more games comes out and the systems mature it would make sense but right now I just don't feel it.

I'm about 99% sure I'm selling my Xbox One and just going to pick up a cheap PS3 for Black Friday......

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not happy with Next gen how I was with the jump from Xbox to Xbox 360 or even Ps2 to Ps3. Someone must agree with me out there.....

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if you're a shooter fan, BF4 at 60 fps with 64 players on Xbox One or PS4 is night and day difference from past-gen 24 players, 30 fps, and just flat out horrible graphics and textures.

Has there ever been a AAA title at launch? Most launch releases are just the beginning. Both consoles will have big blockbusters by next year but I can understand your plight.

So the next consoles sucks be wise they have less than 300 titles available at launch? I don't see where this thread is going.

I'm the exact opposite. I felt burned out with last gen, but I've been gaming a lot since I got my PS4.

BF4 and Forza 5 are enough for me to switch to next-gen now rather than later. There's still games on my Xbox 360 I want to continue playing such as GTA V and Diablo 3. I wish though that those games were already on Xbox One.

So textures = gameplay?

Also On Bf4 next gen the largest game I played was 16 vs 16 and honestly 12 vs 12 is still good. I do admit that 60fps is really nice, but 30fps is still good.

My point being I just don't feel the massive improvement in this next gen of gaming. graphics arr better but really not night/day as you say. I'm really thinking about just going back and waiting.......

Wha'd you expect? Day one adopters are buying the potential of said system. No launch console comes fully fleshed outta the gate.

You would've been massively dissapointed at the launch of last gen too then.

Exactly, Uncharted/Last of Us are all post launch titles, especially Last of Us...

If you havn't played PS3-games, that will be the best thing to buy for a while. :-/
If you want the best stuff of future releases, you can upgrade asap, and avoid getting a backlog - just play the great games when they release. :)

To be honest, I'm completely opposite. I wasn't as hopeful for initial jumps, but the gameplay I've seen with my eyes in stuff like Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and Killzone make me super excited for the future. Especially DR3. From just watching vids, that's definitely my favorite nexgen game of the bunch. Plus, it's already been said, but BF4 has 64 players. To each their own I guess, but everything I've seen as a total package, from the launch line-up to the improved kinect controls, just makes me wish I could afford an X1 in the here and now. If you want to give yours away for free, be sure to PM me.

I agree with you just doesn't seem as big of a jump this gen . Last gen xbox live , marketplace , and all the bells and whistles were exciting to me even if I only had a few games . Next gen pretty much is more of the same with more powerful hardware .

Personally I have a backlog of games and there are only two xb1 I really want 1 ps4 game in feb so I'm just gonna wait until sometime later next year to take the next gen dive.

I was going to wait until spring, but I figured why? The systems are going to cost the same at launch as they will next spring.

$500 just seems like a lot of money for a damn console with no games. I remember Nintendo days you bought a console that came with two controllers, mario bros, Duck Hunt and world Class Track Meet.

Call me ol'skool but man I miss them days.....

Typically, launch games aren't that great. I'm not saying these launch games are the greatest ever, since games will improve (along with system features), but the batch of games at launch for X1/PS4 are solid. They may be just visually enhanced games but there's lots of high profile games to pick from.

- EA Sports
- NBA 2k14
- CoD, BF, KZ
- Forza, NFS
- AC4, DR3
- KI, Injustice
- And a mishmash of hit and miss titles like Ryse, Knack, various low budget games, and downloadable indie games

I'd say the launch games are much better than anything I remember. I never had a Dreamcast, so maybe that batch of launch games were better, but no way any other launch games from old platforms were better.

As for aesthetics vs. gameplay. I don't think traditional controller games will improve much. You got twin sticks and bunch of buttons. I don't think PS4's touchpad will add much. All the innovation is really going to come from more motion controls and cam work from K2 and Eye, and social apps integrated into games. And if X1's dedi servers and matchmaking hold true, you'll experience more polished serviceability.

If anyone is looking for big gameplay improvements from using s standard X1 or PS4 controller I don't think you'll see much.

Are you talking about bundles then? Also, you can download/play Killer Instinct for free. Just one character, but you take him online and everything. Plus there's Kinect Sports Rivals wave race and some other demos.

You seem really impatient. We had a thread about patience a while ago. You don't sound like a patient man. Sell a console because you don't like one game? Kind of impulsive.

You should probably do what I'm doing, wait for a year or two before jumping on board. By then, the consoles will have built up a library, and both the graphical and gameplay differences ought to be evident.

I work Full Time (Video Production Industry) and Full Time College with wife and Kid, I barely sleep as I'm always working so yeah My lifestyle makes me like that. When I want to play something it just needs to work.

I almost feel kind of crazy for selling my PS4, I had Nba 2k14, Assassins Creed, Killzone & BF4. That Target deal two weeks ago was crazy and I stacked a 30% coupon on it.

So I sold/traded the Ps4 for an Xbox one with two of my games and I'm here sitting with an Xbox One with no games and a PS4 version of Battlefield..... SMH

comparing an entire life cycle of 8 years to launch titles doesnt really seem like a fair comparison. Besides, dead rising 3 couldnt be done on last gen, and its the first zombie game to truly feel like a zombie game with soo many on screen. Forza 5, with the amazing graphics and rumble triggers makes racing feel more realistic, and driveatars are so much better than regular AI that never mess up. Kinect rivals is the best motion type of gaming ive experienced and the xbox dashboard blending with your entertainment system is icing on the cake. NBA and Ryse although not doing anything differently gameplay wise, immerse me more than ever with their cutting edge graphics.

There is a lot to be happy about and look forward to, perhaps you are expecting too much or just not into gaming as much anymore? BF4 kills every battlefield experience on any console before it, so in terms of gameplay, 64 player with 60fps is a huge advancement in gameplay experience.

I just turned on the Xbox one and used my voice to navigate to some movies and games, seems cool even though it doesn't work perfect.

I guess my initial shock was like how in the heck to we get Ryse instead of a new Halo, Gears Of War or something similar? I always have liked Forza but to my understanding it's lacking in tracks and cars when compared to the past.

I'm going to give the Xbox One a chance, no where rents games though...... I have BF4 for the PS4 that I would love to trade for an Xbox One version. Also Dead Rising seems cool, but not willing to pay $50-$60 for it. Damn Target needs to do another buy 2 get 1 free sale!

Did this really happen? I think you made a really impatient mistake. You were sitting on four near AAA games and it sounds like you got the deal of a lifetime on them. Not only that but you traded in the more powerful console that was $100 cheaper, and when you get those games back they will look worse than what you already had (you know BF4 on Xbox runs at 720P and has frame rate issues during MP, NBA 2K14 on Xbox does not have anti-aliasing turned on, and AC4 is sub-1080P and is also without anti-aliasing on the Xbox). As a rads doc I always really appreciate image quality and I'm sure you are no different working in video production.

Also from one impatient man to another, you need to buy an extended warranty and just chill out and play through those games. It sounds like you are like me and work a lot and have little time. I do like the games you mentioned, but let me tell you, I'm having an absolute blast with the indie titles and haven't had this much fun gaming since the early mid 80's. We had a 360 last gen and loved it but get that PS4 back and grab Trine 2, Flower, Resogun, Super Motherload and Warframe for now, I'm having a blast with these games and they will keep you pretty busy until the next wave hits next month. Keep an eye out on the PS store since there are a lot more coming next month it looks like. And relax and have some fun with all this.

Clearly he's looking for gameplay, not counting pixels...He thought Killzone was "horrible" and here you're telling him it's AAA, so there's obviously there's a difference of opinion. Not saying he'll find what he's looking for on X1 either, but the PS4's launch games didn't seem to be to his liking. Either way, like people are saying, you gotta be patient after a console launch...it takes a while to build up good catalog.

lol, that's cool, man. You're working full-time, going to school full-time, plus you've got family responsibilities. I'd be short on patience, too.

There wasn't much I saw during the launch window that appealed to me, personally. I think this gen still has a lot to offer, so I'm making due with that in the meantime, and I'll jump on board the next-gen bandwagon when it has time to build up a little steam.

I'm pretty disappointed so far as well. I bought a PS4 with AC4, NFS, and Killzone. I sold NFS the next day after buying it and will sell KZ as soon as weather permits. I was far more impressed with the 360 launch games than I am right now. I don't have any interest in any other launch titles, or the ones I'm interested in aren't worth the money for playing MP. I'll most likely finish up AC4 and box the system up until April and hope there's something worth playing.

I'm enjoying next gen console, but I am also disappointed. Yes, enjoying it while disappointed at theyame time. The only game that launch has that interest me, is BF4, which I already had on pc. I brought next because I really want to play with family, but as far as games are concerned, it's been a very lackluster launch.

I really wish we had a good RPG at launch.

Soul Caliber for the DC was pretty good. So was Halo, Mario 64, and Super Mario Bros/World.
