LG 4k HDR monitor

Bout time we started seeing them.

Is 32" too, which is about max for my monitor space.

Hopefully it isn't ridiculously priced.

I've never actually seen HDR in person. Is it that noticeable? I'm not one to buy the best of the best when it comes to tech, but it seems that this is going to be the future.

I need a new monitor (I use my monitor as a console gaming screen too) but I'm not sure if the extra bang is worth the buck.

It depends, as far as movies and TV goes. It depends with how it was shot/rendered, how it is was processed, how it was converted for home delivery, etc., that, all in addition to the actual cinematography of the film, the locations/sets used. A million variables. A movie/tv show saying it's HDR really means nothing unless it can benefit from it. Modern Family in HDR will show little to no benefit compared to a rescanning of Children of Men's negative to widen the dynamic range.

That's a really good point.

Do you have a HDR monitor?

I'm normally a "sweet spot" buyer, and I'll probably only use the new monitor for a few years. But I'm honestly struggling to find media that embraces it.

I honestly don't even know if PC games have a HDR mode.

I think I've answered my own question with your help. Thanks PV.

(I convinced myself that I couldn't build a PC without a Blu ray burner... And the only disc that has EVER been in my PC, was the windows install disc. Now i wouldn't even buy it on disc. lol)

*Edit* There isn't a PC standard set yet? Or any HDR standard... The consoles are literally leading before PC?... Huh... I can't believe this hasn't been brought into the console debates here yet.

EditEdit... Waaaait... There's no games supporting HDR...?!?

Checked out the spec and it's strange to say the least. I thought HDR10 standard required 1,000cd of brightness? And 32UD99 maxes out at just 550cd, only when HDR mode is enabled, and otherwise it maxes out at 350cd. There are one or two other monitors announced that achieves 1,000cd but they are just outrageously expensive. With all the words about cheaper HDR TVs that supports the mode on paper but suffers from washed out colors and low brightness, I'm kinda skeptical as to whether I should buy an HDR monitor in 2017. Maybe I should buy one after things settle down.

HDR is one of those features where your eyes will adjust to the new hotness pretty quickly, so the "Wow" factor is kind of short lived... but then you go back to something that isn't HDR, and you think, "blarg... this looks really washed out... what's wrong with it...?"... and then you realize - oh, yeah, it's not HDR.

Given the small volume of content that supports HDR, I don't think of it as a "must have" right now, but come this fall, I'll likely have the latest LG OLED 65" display, there will be much more HDR content, and I'll have Scorpio plugged in... so for me, it'll be pretty mandatory come this fall...
