I just thought these were funny. My cheeks were freezing in downtown Chicago all week though. Damn Windy City, why must I love you so? Supposed to be -40 here in Illinois so I'm debating about whether I should step outside of the house before giving up, or stay warm in bed.

Its not common to snow in Texas, so the drama is understandable. have you seen news of snow in Middle east & moutains in Vietnam. People go completely nuts about it when snow drop. There were traffic jam in Vietnam due to people rushing to the mountains to see snow.

Its a matter of perspective. I have friends from Russia, & he came from South West Siberia city of Omst, where temperature dropping to below -50 deg c (you can do your own conversion) is normal. And thats the South! In the North, in Winter, there is not much difference from Atlantica in Winter.

In tropics, 78 deg F is chilly, 7o deg F probably freezing, & I also heard of people freezing to death in extreme coldness of 55 deg F in India.

How can someone freeze to death in 55? Sure, they may feel like they are going to, but I don't think it could really happen. Could it?

Freezing to death as in dying of cold, not necessery must be below freezing.

It can, actually, for homeless people in 3rd world countries, that is not used to colder temperature, hence not dressed, or covered for it. 50F (I did the conversion, & 50F is more accurate)may not seem much, but if they are wearing only a summer T-shirt, short pants & out for a dozen hours, & factoring they are not condition to cold, it can be fatal, especially if they are also weaker.

I get that southern areas shut down over an inch or two since they don't have the equipment to deal with it but come on... you couldn't slide your car on that if you tried. What do they think that little dusting is going to do? It probably melted that afternoon anyway.

Exactly, rain is worse than the dusting of snow they got.

Took today off due to wind chills and drifting snow over night. Plus I work at a school district which was closed down anyways.

Yeah, I live in Arkansas and when it snows here everything shuts down. The state just does have the equipment.

Heck, just two days ago it was 67 here!

I live in the south now, although I was born in Chicago, so southerners' reactions to snow make me laugh. Omg, shut down the city.

However, I have learned to respect the ice storm. That stuff can be very nasty and dangerous.

In the UK we often turn to chaos when it snows. Especially people living in the south.
Just make winter tires like the most of us in Continental Europe mandatory, & have more snow plows in each neighborhood, & most of the problem with the snow in U.K will be gone.

All the schools around me in Ohio are closing for the second straight day because of how cold it will be outside.

An interesting problem I am having as a land lord right now...

All my furnaces and water heaters are high efficiency. Well one of the components that natural gas breaks down to when it burns is water. There is almost no heat in the exhaust as it leaves the building, so the water vapor is freezing inside the PVC exhaust vents, and clogging them.

Got home yesterday in NE Ohio to find it was 42 degrees inside. Thanks to the internet and desperation, I was able to fix it myself and now it is back to normal. Poor kitties must have been freezing all day.
