I'm talking about a voluntary break. If it was involuntary -- for example, if you were in the hospital, or if you were deployed, or if someone peed on your console and you couldn't afford a new one -- never mind that; I'm not talking about situations like that. I'm talking about times when you could've played games but chose not to, for whatever reason.

I'm also talking about breaks you took since you became a serious, "core" gamer. I'm not talking about, for instance, the years between playing Nintendo as a kid, followed by many years of not playing, and then later getting into gaming as a serious hobby as an adult. That's not the kind of break I'm talking about. I'm talking about breaks since you've become seriously interested in the hobby.

So, what's the longest time you've gone without gaming? I seem to be on a hiatus myself right now, running a little over two months. So, I'm just curious about other people's experiences.

A little over a year.
I went over seas though and I wasn't about to ship my gaming rig.

I also want to add that my family that I visited in Europe had a PS3 but I just wasn't interested in playing it.

At best 2 weeks. When work has me coming in early and leaving late, I only have time to sleep and prepare for the next day.

Games are my stress reliever/meditation, so I don't go super long without playing something.

Ugh, I voted 5 years before i read the conditions.

I would say about a month or 2 here or there just going through a mini-funk where nothing felt appealing to play. Usually gets broken by something new coming out that reignites interest.

I think about year. I don't remember why but I just kinda stopped for awhile

Only when I travel and even then i usually have a game on my Mac I'm playing.

I said 6 months, but we still used it for Buzz/Dance Dance Revolution when having mates over for drinks/after watching Gilmore Girls.

Shiiiiit. A deployment ain't enough to keep me away. I found time to game even though I spent most of my waking moments outside the wire :j

I swear I selected a week, but it put me in the one month slot. I tend to game everyday, even if it's only for 30 mins if I'm really tired. I much prefer it to TV, and find I only tend to do Netflix binges if I'm in between games, or the show is very, very good.

That's why I'm a multi-console owner. It's funny you remembered that.

No but seriously, I haven't been into gaming like I used to be. My most played game this month has been Pacman on PS Vita while taking a dump.

I have Halo 5 barely touched. Same with Witcher 3 on PC. Most of the games I own I have put some time into them but rarely play to the end let alone finish 100%.

I think I'm becoming a dreaded casual gamer. Or maybe I could be classified as an electronics enthusiast or hobbyist.

This. I really don't like passive entertainment much anymore.

1 week involuntary gone to the Caribbean for vacation.

About 3 years. After I turned 20 and got out on my own and had a life, I sold off all of my gaming stuff only to come back to it and get into it deeper than ever.

Probably about 6 months. Have done it a couple times though; college years, right after graduation, etc. Usually it's just because I'm working on outside of work projects.

Maybe a week tops. I'm always playing something, whether it's a single player game or just getting some multiplayer in. Now that i think about it, it's kinda crazy to have been gaming for 25 years and never taken a real break. Guess i need to get a life. :D

lol @ "someone peed on your console and cannot afford a new one"

...didn't that actually happen to a member here?

Dreamcast to the OG Xbox. Dreamcast was the second console in a row for me to die an early death from lack of software support (3DO was the first one). Of course I then decided to go with the Xbox which no one really knew if it would survive or not. I guess I'm a sucker for consoles with lofty ideals. Until PS3 I had never owned a Playstation and still to this day, despite growing up in the 80's and 90's, I never owned a Nintendo system either.

I edited the poll, so people can change their votes, if they'd like.

Yeah, it happened to dno. He was nice enough to put some guy up in his home, rent-free, for a while, and the guy got drunk and pissed on his PS4.

Lol. Gotta wonder if he would've peed on an Xbox...

Thanks for allowing the change, I switched mine.

I'm currently in midst of about 1 month break which could transition to 2 or 3. Just trying to make time for some other things I need to work on. I'll fit gaming back into the mix soon though. Too many good games on the horizon.
