Mad Max (Sept. 1)

Sonybots am cry. :ycry:

"From what we've sampled so far, Mad Max is a solid multi-platform release across both consoles. Frame-rates appear stable under stressful conditions, while the level of graphical accomplishment appears practically identical, with the Xbox One not only achieving a native 1080p presentation but also delivering slightly better performance overall. Of course, we'll be taking a closer look at the game in our upcoming Face-Off, but for now the Xbox One game nudges slightly ahead in performance terms, though in practice there's really not much to separate the two versions at all, with both serving up an excellent experience."

Played for about an hour last night. First impressions; floaty ass controls, gorgeous visuals, poor audio/VO, nails Mad Max feel, simple but fun combat, excessive motion blur. Overall I'm enjoying the game, though the motion blur while the camera is panning is near nauseating.

But there are no flowers I hear.

Looks like the game fizzled out as predicted.

"It feels unfair to compare Mad Max to The Phantom Pain, but they’re two open world games that released on the same day for the same price, so sod it. Going from Hideo Kojima’s gorgeous, 60fps, complex experience to this humdrum series of checklist activities is like returning home on a rainy day after a trip to Majorca. Over time, it feels like one is doing a lot of work for very little reward, as compared to something like Metal Gear Solid V which is constantly enticing its players with new toys and inspiring challenges despite having even more content. There’s simply no reason to pick it up, however, if you’ve yet to try The Witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor or Batman: Arkham City. There are tons of better games that go for what Mad Max went for and do so in a superior manner."

Ouch.

Kvally, it's quite obvious the Phonies are now going to start downplaying the enjoyment of this game because it shows better on X1. They don't want MadMax to be involved in List Wars as a AAA title that would put a chink in their armor. Watch how MW's praise for the game will now subside with it being better on X1.

As an unbiased observer I can't help but chuckle watching how these things play out like a script.

Edit: love the mod auto edit for writing Triple A, lol.

Once you start really upgrading your car the fun begins... I fvcking love that harpoon too.

Actually, the game is doing better than predicted. Gamers have just been loving it. Got a good 77 on metacritic:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/mad-max

and user score of 8.1.

Glad it did so well. Seems like my friends list is filled now with people playing the game.

According to metacritic the user score is a .6 points lower than Metal Gear. lol. Not to mention probably over half the ppl blowing up MGS are raging fanboys, not that it isn't a great game.

Well, 20+ hours in and this game is not getting old. Plus I love that while you get pretty powerful, you never get too OP like Shadow of Mordor.

1) Publishers send review copies to press prior to release so that critics can play the game before they launch. They send the version of the game that they feel will be scored most favorably for obvious marketing purposes. This version of the game, the PS4 version, scored a 70 on Metacritic. The version your using, the XBO version, was only reviewed by 9 outlets.

2) Both the PS4 and XBO versions of the game have been given an 8.2 (PS4) and 8.1 (XBO) by the public, four days after release. I'm not sure about you, but I wouldn't take much credence in reviews written by Metacritic users a day, or two, or three, after release. Honestly, have you read some of the early reviews the public gives these open world 50+ hour games? lol, I think not.

1) So The Phantom Pain's early public review score is "blown up" by rabbid MGS fans when it's sitting at an 8.7, and the critics have it at a 95? Do high profile releases ever get "blown up" by the public when compared to the critics? No, they do not. In actuality, high profile releases get dinged by crybaby vigilanties who feel grading a game a 0 makes them some kind of justice fighter for the little man.

If there is a disconnect between gamers and critics on high profile releases, it is ALWAYS the gamers who are downgrading the game. Lest we forget...

Mass Effect 3 getting a 5.7 from the public.
Dota 2 getting a 6.4 from the public.
Fez getting a 6.2 from the public.
Call of Duty MW 3 getting a 3.3 from the public.
Diablo 3 getting a 4.0 from the public.
NBA2k14 getting a 4.4 from the public.

There are tons of these kinds of examples and they all have to do with quirky little nerd gamer issues rather than actual game quality.

But yeah, The Phantom Pain, sure is getting blown up by all the 0's it's getting by gamers who feel outraged about microtransactions, DLC, and Kojima-Konami gate.

People. Learn how to Metacritic better.

TL;DR

You chose...poorly.

Let's allow these user scores some time to settle first, I was simply stating the current state with should be obvious... not everyone has completed these 50 hour monsters.

Watched the movie tonight for the 1st time, nonstop thrillride. Whew! The hybrid vehicle creations were the highlight of the show for me. I will definitely get this game if you are given Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts abilities to fashion up your own ride that responds to proper physics. Anything less and I will wait for a window to open up when I don't have a game to play...and with all the new releases coming that will be post-holidays.

If you're wanting BK: Nuts and Bolts type creation, you won't find it here.

Sounds like you're creating your own narrative and showing everyone your own bias.

I love you using first person driving with the harpoon, circling around my enemies and panning the camera while firing, so immersive.

Have no bias, own both, play both. Just called out Intelly in another thread. I call 'em out both ways unlike many "unbias" observers here. Nice try, it was worth a shot.

The more I play this game, the more it feels like the Tomb Raider reboot, the UI, the bandit camp have a very similar art style even the colors are the same, some of the music is very similar in that regard, in the AI feels a bit like TR as well. In combat the small counter button prompts are nearly identical. Obviously its very different in other ways but I wouldn't doubt if they took some cues from that game. Definitely not a clone, its very unique in most other ways.

Pretty easy way to take down convoys, kinda funny too.
