The Guinness World Record for largest game collection has been set by Michael Thomasson, a 31-year-old New York father. He earned the record for owning 10,607 games. According to the Associated Press, not only does he own the games, but the dozens of systems to play them on as well.

He estimates the collection is worth $700,000 to $800,000.

If he tries to sell it to Gamestop, they'll probably say "Yeah, but we'll give you $5."

I kind of thought the largest collection would be more than 10k games, but still that's an impressive collection.

$700-800k? More like $100k.

Not unless if he doesn't open box of N64 games. I've seen some people sell unopen box of N64 games for almost $500 to $600 a piece. I think it's silly to buy so high price for a single game but hey, who am I to complain with? Their money, I suppose.

Every now and then someone pops up saying he has the biggest game collection, but one thing that seems the same is that it's always console games.

What would really be impressive is if someone accumulated a hoard of legit computer games from PC, Apple II, Commodore, Amiga etc.... with all the discs, huge manuals and boxes where back then they were all irregular sizes with some the size of college textbooks.

He might have 100+ unopened/sealed copies of world of warcraft collector's edition which goes for $2000+ each easily on eBay. Wished I had a time machine so I can go back to 2003 and buy 100+ copies of it when frys had them stacked 20ft high for $49.99 each.

So now he's recognized around the world for simply having... No life.

Congratulations!

Hey someone had to say it lol.

It doesn't say anywhere that he actually played those games. All we know is that he's somewhat wealthy. ;)

You have to be a gamer to buy games. So you have to be an extreme SUPER gamer one way or another to go above and beyond and end up with this kind of collection.

No one that cares little to none about games will go out of his way to end up with this kind of collection. I'm sure someone wealthy would spend their money collecting other stuff that are way more valuable to show and brag about.

To the average joe reading this article the first thing that will come to his mind will most likely be, "What a waste of life/money"...

Shoot I remember when I used to have a game collection of about 30 or so games for my 360 my friends who weren't gamers would just make fun of me for it.. I never mind though, I never took it as an insult. I actually thought it was funny looking at it from the OTHER side and thought maybe it was reasonable for non gamers to think like that... So I can just imagine the "No life" jokes this guy is getting from people that know him but aren't gamers.

Just a random thought..

He has a son, and unless that boys adopted, I'm guessing he used a woman for one of those. I say he has a life. Not to mention he needs money to buy all that stuff, even over a lifetime, that stuff ain't cheap.

What does having a son have to do with anything?

There's plenty of easy chicks capable of getting knocked up wether it be drunk hoochies at bars, overweight and low self esteem chicks that will fall for any guy offering them some attention they are not used to getting so they take advantage of whatever little attention they get every once in a blue, handicapped females, dumb neighborhood broads who think acting rebellious or ghetto is still cool, females that get pregnant by almost every guy they meet, and the list of potential one night stands goes on and on... That doesn't mean you scored big and all of a sudden have "something" special going on because you were able to get one of the many easy broads in bed who would probably not give you the time of day if they were smart enough to think before doing the act (generally speaking here).

I don't know about the guy's situation regarding his son and his baby mother or about how they all came about... And I really don't care.

All I am saying is that for the average non gamers who read about him, to them he PROBABLY has no life outside of his video game life due to the fact that the only thing he is known for is his video game accomplishment/award.
