Pretty crazy "insert intelly joke" .... must be some big problems at bungie yadda yadda

Either way, wonder what's up with that? Must have not liked his direction for their new title (sounded too halo?) and they wanted a different feel and emotion with it I guess.

343 could pick em up, he could do some ugh, halo music ;)

I wonder why? Maybe he was tough to work with now or the like. Who knows. These people all get big heads sometimes.

That's unbelievable. He was by far one of their best assets. Heck, Microsoft needs to pick him up immediately.

I'm saddened to say that Bungie's board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014.

Honestly, never knew he was an employee, or was this a contract specific to Destiny? This has me thinking of that Activision influence. O'Donnell is hands down among the elite of video game composers.

O'Donnell never left Bungie and was one of the most long-serving and influential employees.

Exactly my response. WTF? Seriously, WTF???

It is even harder to imagine Bungie without Marty than Halo without Marty, even when considering Halo 4 happened and it happened well. Not sure if I'm as pumped for Destiny as before (though the game will be, hopefully, the last Bungie game that will feature Marty's score. Or will it be scrapped?)

Halo 4, the first non-Bungie FPS game in the series, was released in 2012 for the Xbox 360 but contained music composed by Neil Davidge.

he did not do Halo 4, but now maybe he can work
on the next Halo for Microsoft?

Im sure this guy has 100 job offers already. He's responsible for some of the most memorable music in video game history, and he's highly respected in the musical community. I would say 343 would be perfect for him, but the dude might be sick of scoring sci-fi shooters by now. I think its obvious to say he will land on his feet rather quickly.

This. He can go to 343, but he might be tired, & 343 already found a good fit in Neil Davidge. Now I am interested as to where he will go. What if Visceral grabs him to put him on Star Wars project?

I agree with the last two posts. Maybe he just needed a change because people sometimes get burnt out. He probably wanted to do something different.

Who knows? He might make an album or two and be his own man.

I don't think it was because he wanted a change. He got fired unexpectedly by Bungie in his opinion without cause. Maybe they didn't think he was a good fit for their current/ future projects anymore. It's unfortunate, but it happens, even to the greats.

Halo 2 and Halo Reach's OSTs were amazingly epic and such a great fit for what went on in the games. I'm sure he'll land on his feet.

Actually having both Neil and Marty would be great if the budget can afford two composers. I would hate for Neil to be ousted by Marty though.

The Halo 4 soundtrack was fine but it doesn't hold a candle to the previous games.

According to rumors, which are exactly that, he was asking for more money, the board already considered him "overpaid," there was a lot of tension, he was let go.

Putting a balance to the argument, Neil's soundtrack is at least as good as Marty's. The style is different, but I personally prefer Neil's atonal, rhythm-heavy soundtrack to Marty's melody-driven one.

A damn shame for real. All of the Halo games had ICONIC and EPIC music.

I consider the coders and designers to be the core of halo, while the music became popular that is more to do with the game being damn good. Any decent music the game had thrown at it would have been pretty decently liked in my opinion atleast. His music was still pretty good and did seem to fit halo rather well.

Should be interesting to see where he ends up

There are countless popular and great games with soundtracks that aren't anywhere near as loved. He is as good as it gets in the industry.

Well of course that is going to be subjective, so if you think he's top tier I obvously can't argue that. I don't think most of his music was my favorite in a game, just a few tracks for sure though.
