I'm a little surprised we don't already have a thread on this.

Some quick observations from someone who has never played any Metal Gear multiplayer.

* Finally a multiplayer game for people who can't stand Modern Warfare!
* Looks like it's 8 vs 8.
* I love the giant map size. Marking enemies on something that big looks essential.
* Someone on NeoGaf mentioned how great the running animations are. They were right.
* Gadgets look unbelievably cool. Surface to air system, teleportation, stuffed animals, scout grenade, mechs etc..
* God Kojima, why don't you just rip off Splinter Cell's Spies vs Mercs? You know it's the better stealth multiplayer concept.

What did you guys think? This game is shaping up to be a beast.

The balloon weapon (assuming that's the Surface to air system in your post) looks awesome.

How well this works will ultimately come down to how people play it though. Definitely doesn't look like a lone wolf game.

I'm super skeptical of this. I hope I'm wrong though.

In Splinter Cell's multiplayer it's 2 on 2. That means you have a mic, and you're stuck in an online match with one other person for 10 minutes. There's a natural sort of pressure to talk with your teammate in that scenario. In that game, while defending, you're often alone. If you see two spies, it creates a sort of hazard time, maybe 3 seconds maybe 30 seconds, where you feel obligated to say to your teammate "Um, there's two of them over here. Please come over and help me."

In multiplayer games with larger player counts there's less pressure to want to communicate. I put a lot of time into The Last of Us multiplayer (which is 4 on 4) and the "hazard time" when things don't look good for you is far shorter. I would estimate anywhere between 1 to 5 seconds. You really don't have time to say to your teammates "The enemy is over here" because by the time you say it, he or you is already dead.

With 8 on 8, it seems like you're going to need a group of players you already know who are all willing to communicate right off the bat. Which is fine I suppose, but it just doesn't seem like you're going to see the level of communication found in that video we just saw yesterday.

Feel the same way about R6:Siege

It looks interesting, but hardly looks like something I'd play long term either. There has to be a genuine feel of balance and competition for Mp games to really succeed and make you want to put your free time into it. Not sure if this game will have it. So much of it feels like one big "bull shot" if you will in regards to the gameplay. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I honestly have no idea what any of this means. It feels like one big "bull shot"?

You know how bull shots are doctored photos? That's how this trailer feels. It's supposed to show off the gameplay but it feels doctored even for a trailer if you will. I know it's an odd comparison, but it's what I came up with. If you have a problem with it then me me in club penguin 1v1 snowball noscope snow forts tundra server asap.

Lol, no! I understand what bull shots are now! No fighting!

The trailer was certainly scripted. It's the only way you can guarantee it's gonna look good. Multiplayer by nature is hectic, showing snake constantly get spawn camped wouldn't have made a good trailer.

Unless you mean in graphical quality, which is something I won't touch.
Looked real fun though, independent of scripting. The parts are there. I always regretted not having a ps3 while MGS4's online portion was active. Then I hoped they'd have one with metal gear rising, then it turned into a different game, and now finally it's back.
I look forward to it.

It is pretty funny watching scripted MP demos like this. Someone should take something like the R6:Siege demo from E3 and put it side by side next to a random match when that game comes out. Would be good for the lulz.
