Microsoft's Complete Reversal on "Play Xbox Anywhere"

Microsoft announced all games would be in the program. That is no longer the case. Now there are only 12 games to be in this program. And the PC copies aren't free; you still have to pay $60 for the Xbox One copy to actually get that free copy.

Wait...what! Did you expect to get the PC version 100% free...as in they will just give everybody a copy? It was always stated as a buy for this platform and get this platform version for free.

There aren't only 12 games to be in the program neither. There are only 12 games currently announced for the Play Anywhere program.

See, this is what I meant about Microsoft protecting themselves.

We have to remember that Microsoft publishes a lot of games from 3rd party developers, it would be unreasonable to expect all those parties to jump aboard this new initiative.

I never said anything about Microsoft giving away these games completely free. You just made that part up.

Anyways, Microsoft doesn't publish a lot of games by any means. Only about ten Microsoft-published games released last year, three of them being indie games. And this year is about the same. And yet they decided to back down and backtrack from their earlier simple commitment of "every new title published from Microsoft Studios."

How did I make it up? I asked you if that was what you expected. It was a question not a statement.

It wasn't a question either. It was a rhetorical question patronizing someone for something they never said. And you added "It was always stated as a buy for this platform and get this platform version for free" as if I said differently. But whatev...

How can MS offer it for every game they publish if every game they publish isn't developed for both PC and Xbox? If it's a console only game then how can they offer a play anywhere deal?

Duh

It was a question. It has an answer and it isn't an obvious answer(no answer is obvious on the net).

Then again your comment was total contradiction to itself. 'It isn't free. You have to buy the Xbox copy to get the free copy'

Their original statement was "every new game published." Which is doable. Their statements were never about all of the games already on Xbox One from before the announcement.

Rhetorical questions aren't actual questions. And the comment wasn't a contradiction. You have to pay $60 to get the free copy. I thought I was pretty clear on that. You're just getting overly excited over nothing.

Seriously now. Forget the previous comments. What exactly do you think this change in wording will actually mean for the program?

Keep in mind that Spencer has already reaffirmed their commitment to adding all their games to the program.

MS does something they don't have to for gamers . Gets moaned at.

You didn't answer my question. If Microsoft creates the next Flight Simulator, say Flight Simulator 2018 for PC, and of course they are the publisher, then how can it be a playanywhere title if it's not an Xbox game? (and vice versa).

So I asked you to name a single game that was in the program and now wasn't. You responded with the above. Clearly we're seeing it differently; I see it as them saying that there may be a game, some day, that may not be in the program, and you're seeing it as these 12 games are apparently the only games ever going to be in the program. Or at least, I assume that's what you're seeing, although that's giving you credit for trying to be intellectually honest rather than simply having decided in advance you hate MS or this program and are doing mental gymnastics to try to support that hatred.

And of course you have to buy *one* copy of the game. They never announced it as all MS-published games will be free on all platforms, although I'm sure you'll somehow work that into your next grievance.

Halo 6 is a specific game. It won't be included on PC now that Microsoft has reversed their stance.

"Every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere." Halo 6 would be a new title.

Where did they announce it's not coming to "Play Anywhere" or which other game did they announce is not coming?

You know what, never mind. If you want to be completely off your tits on this, more power to you. If the worst case scenario is I buy a game someday that isn't available on PC so I don't get a free PC copy, #firstworldproblems

I don't get why you are so flustered. But to answer your next question, they altered their position and said "Every new title published from Microsoft Studios that we showed onstage at E3 this year will support Xbox Play Anywhere." Making they hyped us up by promising all these games would be on this program but now are actually only committing to doing twelve of these games. The video in the OP explains all of this.

You keep dodging the question, which means you don't have an answer. Yes, it was initially stated every MS published game would come to play anywhere. It's been amended. You can't name one game that you won't get now that you would have otherwise, but you're still treating this as if it's a major reversal. You're peddling bulls***. There's no reason to think that there's only going to be these 12 games ever in the program or that a huge majority of eligible games will be in the program, but you're fud-bombing the "these are the only 12" angry reaction because facts be damned, anger is fun.

I don't know why you would say I dodged the question. I definitely thought I put the effort and time in to give you an adequate answer. You're probably just missing the whole point deliberately. Only 12 games are now confirmed contrary to their original commitment to delivering all MS-published games. I never lied once in this thread even if some do twist my words as they see fit. Just because I have a healthy 'glass-half-empty' mentality towards Microsoft's involvement in PC gaming. The thread has run its course. I've already done all of the explaining I can. Sorry if I offended. I just love ragging on Microsoft too much.

Halo 6 is an FPS and "won't make sense" on PC because Microsoft wants Xbox exclusives to stay Xbox exclusives. That's how that works.

So, Halo 6 (for sure) isn't going to be on WINDOWS 10 PC? Funny, I work at Microsoft (in the games group) and I hadn't heard that announcement... Maybe Bonnie just forgot to send us employees the memo... Can you please direct me to your source?

This topic is just going nowhere with questions being dodged.
