So ultimately as many of you surmised the decision to put MLB the show on gamepass was MLB. Not shocking.

MS also has deals with developers and publishers to pay them based on the game activity, no payments are up front. Some games MS pays for the full development costs, and some games, MS pays upfront to have games put on the service. They don't say which devs/pub get which deal. They negotiate each one.MLB gets paid through more exposure on Xbox's platform and Gamepass and the studio gets the payment up front too from MS.
When I read about how flexible MSFT is with respect to deals for games for GamePass I was impressed. I don't know if that was Uncle Phil's call but who ever made it deserves a raise.MS also has deals with developers and publishers to pay them based on the game activity, no payments are up front. in depth look at franchise mode. its a bit long.
If that’s the case that sucks. Glad I get to try it on GP.Yeah it sounds like they made major changes to Road to the Show, and made it much worse. Apparently you need to get gear and loadout your player like an RPG? It sounds horrible (and of course with pay to win microtransactions). That's basically the only mode I play. I'm just getting it off Game Pass anyway so I'll still give it a try. It is hard to tell if it is just buggy too and people aren't understanding it. Sounds like they just really changed it though.
If you are a major RTTS player and don't have Game Pass, might want to hold off for now and see how this shakes out.

I swear why do devs do this s*** to their games. It’s like that don’t give a damn about their fans.
From what a buddy told me as you advance you pick your position through conversations or something.Edit: So apparently the 2 way player thing is only a short term thing. The game does a terrible job explaining any of it.
MLB The Show 21: Launch Day Guide and Community Concerns
Hey, so we made it. MLB The Show 21 officially launched at midnight EST for the Xbox and PlayStation platforms. The servers decided to take a dump for much of the night, but that was not unexpected considering the influx of people who probably took advantage of Game Pass to download The Show on...www.operationsports.com
RTTS is really weird. They basically ask you what team's farm system you want to join, then tell you that you are a pitcher plus a hitter (lolwut).
I'm not really sure what they are going for. I didn't play last year's so maybe it was already going this way, but there's zero tutorials. Just jump right in a game and figure it out. I was a SS for 2 games then a DH, now a pitcher. It just makes no sense to me. You're just Shohei Ohtani no matter what I guess unless there's something I'm missing.
It is a shame, because the gameplay feels and looks great on the XSX, and the price is just right if you have Game Pass. It took me a few at bats to get the hang of the hitting again but it felt really good.
