Since many of us use Union as their main gaming hangout, I made some additions to the site to bring more news, faster. You've probably seen it over the past week or so. Do you guys like it? Is it something you guys want to see more of? Andy had said a while back he wanted to have Union be the place to go to get all of the news in one place. So, I aim to make that happen. Where ever the news comes from, you'll see the site's name in front of the thread. Each thread has a snippet of the news with a link to the originating site. This is in addition to our own articles from Eric and Dehnus.

In the future I may need some help sifting through the news and get it into each respective forum. As of right now I'm cool with it though. If there are any news sites that you'd like to see more coverage of, post in this thread and I'll see what I can do. Keep it within the scope of our site.

Thanks,
Plainview

Well since I got a notification for this thread, I know you're asking me specifically, so I'll chime in. :tounge:

I've noticed your posts over the past few days/week and seems cool by me. Can't see this being a bad thing, that's for sure.

You're implementing some major improvements to the site lately, Plainview. I'm impressed. The original content is great. And having Union be the place to get gaming news is a big step forward. Nice work.

The UGF empire grows. Soon Plainview will own the entire game journalism world.

I guess I'm going to be the one dissenting vote here, but I'm not a fan of the news snippets in the forums . Big announcements are fine, but there's so many re-posts of stories from other sites it pushes good discussions off the main page (at least on Multiplat and Other Game Discussion).

I really appreciate all the work you put into the site butthe best part of this community for me has been the discussions that happen between members - screenshot threads, recommendations, tweaks, mods, etc. I wouldn't want to see those conversations diluted by a news feed, but I may be the exception.

I'm being pretty picky with what I let pass through. I could definitely merge some threads. As I get more familiar with the process, along with tweaking it, it will improve.

I agree with this...it almost seems "spammy" or too much. Do I like all the added news? For sure...but it would be nice to have it less intrusive...or better organized.

Keep up the great work PV.

What suggestions do you have with organizing it?

I don't have any...and I think too much news is better than not enough. It's hard to explain, but I am not going to complain..that is for sure.

I think you might have already figured out a solution, and that was with merging a few topics.

FYI, I wasn't being a dick. It was a genuine question for feedback. Tinkering with an interesting solution as we speak.

I didn't think you were being a dick, FYI.

And I don't know of a better solution...because honestly, it was just my opinion....so no solution was needed. You can't please everyone! And so far, it has rave reviews from all that posted here.

I am glad you are keeping it so active. It is already light years better than TXB.

Just to give more input, I noticed on at least one (maybe you have on a few) you also included a section in the post called something like: "Our take on it". I liked that because it it more than basically a copy paste. I think that generates more discussion too.

Dream killer incoming... that was part of the feed, not I sir.

I thought about it but don't have any great solutions. My initial idea was a 'news and updates' subforum, but that would just likely lead to a lot of duplication from members who don't check there (and its another board to click through every day). Perhaps just a bit of selective pruning here and there, most of the news stories are a good fit but some like "Gamespot: Bloodborne, Assassin's Creed: Unity, Far Cry 4 to be Playable at EB Expo 2014" aren't the strongest discussion points.

In the end its probably not a big deal, the news stories people are interested in will get responses and stay on the front page while the others will get buried.

By the way - is there anyway you could give the "News Feed" poster its own icon? That might help a bit visually.

This is what Gamertype badly needed while it slowly died as a forum. Content plus a little direction.
