Ok, with next gen looming over us, I've come to the realization, that if I don't plow throw my extremely large backlog of games, I may never do so.
So, I've decided to start playing through my backlog. It's now or never. The list is wayyyyy to long. For games with difficulty settings, I will play at the easiest, just to get them out of the way. My plan, to get through rather short games at maybe 2 games a week. I won't include longer sandbox type of games, since I can play those for months on end.

So right now, I descend into madness....with Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

See you on the other side brother.

Luckily as far as console games go I only have what I got from PS+. All the other backlog is on PC so whatevs.

I've kind of abandoned ship, if you will, for this gen. With work right now and everything else I'm just too busy to do much gaming. I'm planning on starting fresh next gen.

Make sure you play with the lights on or you will never finish Amnesia!

My backlog for the 360 got huge..and it just kept growing because I was bound and determined to get achievements. After giving up on cheevos and just playing the games things went quicker. How large is your backlog?

Wayyyyyy too large, but maybe not as large as some others.

I have a bunch of games, but these are the ones that I'm going to try (I won't even list the ones I have no plans on playing or have flat out given up):

AW:American Nightmare
Alice:Madness Returns
Amnesia (started yesterday)
Batman Arkham City
Bioshock 1
Bioshock2
Brothers in Arms (all of them)
Bulletstorm
Company of Heroes
Darksiders
Darksiders 2
Deadlight
Dead Space 3
Deuz Ex: Human Revolution
Dragon Age (start, need to finish)
Dragon Age 2
Dungeon Siege 3
FEAR 2
FEAR 3
Fallout New Vegas
Gears of War 3
Halo 4 (started, but not finished)
Hitman: Absolution
Just Cause 2
Krater
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Left 4 Dead 2
Mafia 2
Mass Effect 1 - 3
Max Payne 3
Medal of Honor Warfighter
Neverwinter Night (want to play through the BG2 mod)
Red Orchestra 2
Saints Row" The Third
Socom 4
Spec Ops: The Line
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Splinter Cell: Convinction
Star Craft 2
Tomb Raider (started, but need to finish)
Torchlight 2 (started, but need to finish)
Uncharted 3
Walking Dead
Witcher 2 (started but need to finish)
Xcom: Enemy Unknown

The list above doesn't even include current games that I play on a regular basis like:
BO2
Skyrim
BF3
Diablo 3

Honestly, I haven't even started to get to playing most of these games....because the list just seems so overwhelming, but Steam/Amazon/Gamefly sales have been my weakness.

It's a real shame to not have Bioshock Infinite on that list. I'm hoping that just means you've already played it?

@Qbert

Holy crap that's a huge backlog, good luck playing through them. There are a couple you could skip though, Medal of Honor and Walking Dead, those both kinda sucked.

I have been playing my large backlog of games the last few months as well and i now have it down to 22. Remember you do not need to hammer them all out as the first year tends to be lite in a new generation. I would focus on the many 8-15 hour games on your list like you mentioned doing.

I don't have it, because I'm waiting for it to go on sale, which is fine with me since I still need to beat the other 2.

I liked the 1st MoH, and from what I hear, the latest is pretty short, so I should be able to plow through it pretty quick.

Yep, that's the plan. I know the shortest games tend to be the shooters, so I'll chisel away at those first.

@Qbert

Yeah same here, all the really great sales lately haven't helped out. Just when I think I'm done with buying games this gen, look what's on sale...

Gamefly has it used for $12.99 I think. At least, they did. With that being said, Infinite was the worst Bioshock.

I know the feel, bro.

I got my 360 about three months ago on which I'm still finishing up my original xbox games. Then I finally picked up a ps3 on which I will be getting everything I missed from the ps1 an ps2 systems.

Also, did I mention I'm addicted to steam sales and no matter how hard I avoid them I end up with four or five new games after each one. And to top it all off, I only keep sinking more hours on a f2p game instead picking up the other ones.

All of the ones you listed are pretty long games, so yeah, I'd go for the shooter/action type just to get them out of the way. Then mix in the ocassional pet in the there.

Interestingly, I was with some friends this past weekend and one thing that 2 of them were talking about is that they just like buying games even though they know they will never play them all.

Same with tv shows. Just download loads of tv shows but know they'd never get around to watching them.
