I have been a member of n4g for about 7-8 monthes. I give credit to its creators for coming up with a great idea, but what they dreamt up is broken when it comes to cred. The site is clearly biased, and a venture into the comments section of any xbox story is disgusting fanboyism unmoderated garbage. N4G is the only gaming site of its kind currently and it reads just like a nazi gestopo propaganda letter, with its sony members lording power over its non sony members. If it were any other type of site it would be no issue, but the way it is currently its a poor place to get proper gaming news. Flamebait and controversy is rewarded at N4G with cash, so any website looking for hits can exploit that by stirring the s*** pot. It breeds hate amongst gamers. To me,and correct me if Im wrong, it seems the creator of the site couldnt care less about gamers, they simply want a site that runs itself. They want to sit on their ass and draw a check.
N4G has turned into a flamebait site. Years back when it first came out (probably around the start of last gen I think), the articles posted were mainly links to mainstream sites. Now, it's basically all blogger style and basement guy articles. No doubt, they have every right to get their material posted just as much a link to an IGN article. And sometimes those good nuggets of info come from small sites.
But you can tell the material has become more sensationalized with National Enquirer style headlines, with pro-Sony and anti-MS articles being approved no problem.
For a kick and quick clickthrough my buddies and I did the same with an X1 fanboy post and it got us an absurd amount of comments on N4G, comments on my buddy's site and hits according Google Analytic. People were going apeshyt. And even though we even posted in the comments section that the article was part farce, it made no difference as people just screamed and yelled. We just sat back and laughed at how silly the whole thing was.
When I submitted it, I had got many red flags on it I couldn't believe it actually got approved (it took a while), but it was really no different than the endless PS4 fanboy articles that were getting approved every hour. And when it hit, I think it approached 900 degrees on the front page. The comments were vile. But entertaining none the less.
My buddy then copied me and purposely wrote a pro-PS4 post later on. We wrote each other back and forth on email sharing ideas to maximize the hilarity and hopefully clickthroughs.
Another example of how N4G has become more sensationalized, I did a post about EA's NBA Live Demo. It got declined as I initially called it something like NBA Live Demo. But then I resubmitted the exact same thing but called it something like..... "Is NBA Live 14 worth an 8gb download?" It got approved no problem. Same shyt, different headline.
Most of the approvals/declines are based on the headline alone, with nit picky comments about formatting and spelling. The actual article itself has little relevance.
