Naughty Dog won't push UC4 to 60fps if it means compromises in gameplay.

Talking in the latest issue of EDGE, Straley confirmed that the team locked Uncharted 4's frame rate at 30fps for last month's demo, but revealed that the game is actually running "above 30" frames per second.

"We're actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo], Straley explained. "We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, 'Well, we're going to go for the experience over the 60 frames.'"

EDGE states that a debug station visible on the floor showed that the game was running at 37fps.

Yet another point I tried to make on NeoGAF that led to my banning. If the demo was locked at 30fps, that meant they were already well below 60fps unlocked. It was almost a guarantee that the game would be 1080p/30fps. I equated it with most other games already out that are limited to 30fps.

In any case, this will soften the blow to PS4 owners when they officially state the game is locked to 30fps.

Is the CPU really that limiting? I don't get why Sony aimed to give us eight cores if they are going to be so underclocked.

Aww Val, Come on.. it's just a copy/paste of a thread I found on NeoGAF ( It's not meant to troll the PS4.).

So did you really think that PS4 will have most of the games released running at 60fps?

What were the framerates of UC1, UC2, UC3, and TLoU on PS3? Does anyone know?

All Uncharted games were 30fps as was TLOU.

Shouldn't come as a suprise, ND are all about pushing the graphics boundaries and if that means keeping it locked to 30 fps to achieve more graphical enhancements.

no doubt the game is stunning but I believe 60fps simply plays better and if that means less graphics/resolution so be it.

60fps for UC4 single player won't be of much benefit, as long as the framerate is a rock solid 30fps like PS3 Uncharted games then I'm fine with it.

Makes sense. People look to ND to provide the most compelling visuals on the Sony platform. I'm sure it would still look great running at 60fps but it probably wouldn't look as good as say the Order 1886 who are also looking to push their games visuals to high standard at 30fps.
You can't have the best graphics and run at twice the framerate as competitors. Somethings got to give, no matter how good the dev studio is.

Naughty Dog will never go with 60fps. Because it means they have to spend less time developing advanced technologies to fit in the game. Developers always want more pretty, more power, more everything. 30fps will always be the standard sadly.

not to frame console war, but with UC4 almost certain for 30fps, would you think it will affect Halo 5 decision for staying with 60fps (which already have 'handicap' with less powerful hardware) for single player campaign? They are not the same genre, but you can bet people will compare the visuals of these 2 games as they are the main exlcusive for the respective console.

Unless Halo 5 uses the cloud to enhance , (while I assume not, as I never heard of it), I cannot see how it can compete with UC4 in terms of visuals at when it is 60fps. MP no question, must be 60fps.

If it is...spin expected am I right?

No spin at all..

What makes you think they'll get 60fps when their max right now is 37fps with the assets they have? The only way I see it to 60fps is if they downgrade the graphics. And it's not like the demo was the best looking game we've seen on PS4 in order to warrant scaling back to get the 60fps.

I agree. It's always been 30, and you can have plenty of good gameplay at 30. Uncharted is not a twitch or arena shooter.

I DO think the Article title is hilarious, because 60 frames can only improve gameplay. I'm not sure what game-play would be hindered by better frame-rates, unless it's based in physics that would have to be removed, or something. I've been playing and loving Far Cry 4 at 30, and it controls very well.

I've always said 30 is fine, with 60 being a nice bonus for the most part. This is an area of emphasis only for the people who want to push the PS4 as a massive powerhouse console.

Halo will be 60 because it's got e-sports aspirations. The fine control is largely benefited by being 60fps. It is a gameplay-dependent game while Uncharted emphasizes Narrative and immersion, While Halo has traditionally been, and played fine at a (less than stable)30fps, it is bolstered by the increase in frames.

I meant 30fps for halo single player campaign. Mp of course must be 60fps.
