Naughtydog, Their Game Design Is Outdated… And Others

I mean, they have been using the same formula since Uncharted 2.

So half their output over the last decade has been remasters and remakes?

4 new games, 4 remaster or complete remake in 10 years for 3 different platforms , 4 if you include PC.

Some studios take a decade to develop one or two games... ;)

Not watching an hour of that. The dude liked the games, but then I stopped as to why the video.

I liked the Uncharted games for the most part and TLOU has been stellar. I just have 0 interest in the remakes.

We'll see what's next and judge then. For now, they've built a good reputation that should keep them in most everyone's good graces.

Bethesda's been using the same formula for 22 years yet a certain group of people on this forum take it personally if someone doesn't say that Starfield is a once in a generation type of experience lol. If something is popular how is it outdated? I can see saying the tech behind a game is dated, if the animation system or physics systems are subpar etc but if people are still enjoying a specific type of game why should they stop making it?

I’ve told that to my boss (awesome guy) something similar, he’s got a new z, loves it to death, actually daily’s it…I digress lol but there was this moment I was showing him videos of the ford gt and gt40 and he says something like “I don’t understand why people like that car, it looks old, why doesn’t ford make something new?” I retort with “same reason many wear designer jeans that look old, or aviator glasses or why some people prefer to date older people, they got their reason and it makes them happy and content” he stayed quite, pulled down his ray bans and whipped of his hands on his designer jeans and went back looking at numbers behind the old dell screen….I wanted to say more but I could see it in the eyes of my coworker to shut it, again.

Oh and technically sf is a once in a generation game as it’s only been released this gen so far 😆

Linear game vs massive open world/universe you can tackle any way you please. You can see why some prefer one over the other.

But you also just backed up the point. ND have been doing the same game since 2007.
Time to freshen stuff up. They also peaked with U2 for me.
Also not sure why a criticism of them had to quickly go but Bethesda!

Yeah, I never really thought U3 was great... it certainly wasn't bad, but the only thing I remember about that game is the yetis lol.
I bought a PS4 for U4...I played until you reached that pirate town and shut it off and sold my PS4, again, not a bad game, but the series felt stale at that point (even with the super innovative winch lol).
Now, TLOU was prob the best PS exclusive on the PS3 for me, part 2 I couldn't bother with after what they did to Joel.... it did get the gameplay to be semi okay though (TLOU had mediocre gameplay imo, the story and production value made that game).
They should make something new if they want my attention again.

If there's one thing I don't like in modern gaming, it is story driven games that don't have the gameplay to back it up. Naughty Dog games do not have this problem. They are very fun to play on top of the story. If the gameplay wasn't there, I'd get bored and move on. If I want a great story, I'll go read a book or watch a series.

I wouldn't call it outdated, in my case it is repetitive. However, with that said, any game designer worth their salt is going to use the same design once they find their audience. Its what their consumers want and are willing to pay for. So the fact that they've been so successful with it means that bye and bye their audience is OK with it and potentially want more. I don't see how you can spin that to a negative. Same goes with Bethesda, Arkane, Insomniac, Bioware etc.

ND games are much bigger than they were in the past, more open with more than one way to get through some areas now, it's not just walk down a hallway and shoot people.

Starfield is not an open universe, from the bit I played of it I'd say Skyrim felt bigger just because there was so much more to do in that world, starfield up to the point I've played was a lot of rocks and open empty area with nothing to do. Open universe would be more like No Many's Sky. Starfield is far more limited than Todd Howard made it sound like it would be when he was first talking about the game. There is a reason even with just fans voting it didn't make the second round for players voice at the game awards.

The actual systems in ND games and Bethesda games are basically the same, both companies have made improvements over the same thing they've been doing when it comes to gameplay, Starfield feels a lot better than fallout and each ND game improves on the core gameplay over the previous game but yes they both have a formula they tend to stick to.

Doesn’t he have MS/XB people to troll on Twitter instead of constantly trolling Starfield here?

What’s really funny is we called it that Jerry wouldn’t like Starfield and troll it before release. He owes me $20.

All games are outdated. Everything is the f*cking same even when they tell you it's not.

That's true, everything is just an iteration on what came before it. People will try to say "Spider-Man 2 is just more of the same" yet pretend Gears isn't the same thing every time, hell they changed to a female lead and she plays JUST LIKE THE MEN did lol.

Using the exact same open world is, imo, more of the same than a game that changes out all the levels.
But, gears prob fit into the same genre as NDs games, as in semi outdated.

You're just spewing s*** now. Who pretends Gears isn't the same thing? Dragging Gears into this.... Hilarious.

Yeah I've never seen anyone say gears has changed. They added some open world style bits but that's it.
