I made a new forum where new members must can make their first thread before they're able to post in the rest of the forum. Make sure you check the forum to help welcome new members as they sign up!

Will do. Good idea. It's hard to get acclimated to a longstanding group like this, so any effort we can make to welcome new members will help.

I don't know about requiring/mandating that they make an intro thread as their first post there, though, before they're allowed to post elsewhere. Might that not discourage some people from posting at all? Maybe make it optional, rather than mandatory? I'm just thinking that some people might be shy, might not want to draw attention to themselves like that, or might prefer to just jump into a pre-existing conversation.

Yeah, perhaps encourage or recommend it.
By the way, I've been touring around New Zealand in a camper van the past three weeks if anyone noticed my absence.

That sounds fun.

It was, but I was also babysitting my future Chinese in-laws who don't speak English, don't like foreign (to them) food, aren't used to long periods in a car and the husband is a chain-smoker and NZ is one of the most aggressively anti smoking countries in the world.

So it was also kind of relaxing to come back to my normal life.
