Official Thread New PC Hardware Discussion. POST YOUR RIG/SETUP.

Couple of upgrades, or well maybe not upgrades but something different.

A couple weeks ago I bought new keyboard and mouse. G915 TKL Lightspeed and a G Pro X Superlight. Really enjoying these. I wanted a wireless keyboard as I needed the ability to move my keyboard on demand around my cat. I loved my G815, and the G915 is the wireless version of that, i just got the TKL version.

G815 > G915 TKL

I wanted to run the keyboard and mouse off of 1 dongle, and my G Pro wireless didn't support that. So I purchased the G Pro X Superlight, I didn't buy the newest Superlight 2 because I've heard a lot about the side buttons being way too stiff. So I went with the 1 instead, plus it was 50 dollars cheaper.

G Pro Wireless > G Pro X Superlight wireless.

Also wanted to try the 7800X3D. It was on sale and my needs for a 12 core + CPU have kind of dwindled. This runs with a lot less power, and is the fastest gaming CPU you can buy.

So I went from 7900X 12 core > 7800X3D 8 core. If I really like the 7800X3D, I'll probably get the Zen 5 X3D when it comes out.20240619_105841.jpg

It doesn't address CPUs that are already crashing. If your CPU has instability it's too late and the damage is done. You have to RMA back to Intel.

That microcode update is to prevent that damage from occurring.

I'm not sure if this is the place for it, but I'll just post it:

In my home we have had a Netgear Orbi mesh system going. Two satellites I guess you'd call them.

Well, the f'n router died yesterday. I came home from work and my Dad wasted his whole day trying to figure it out.........

And I have the weekend off and just want to watch some youtube or whatever.

But my desktop has no wifi, because the only remaining working part of this mesh system is the satellite in my room.

Ok, so WTF do I do? Head up to the nearest PC store and buy a PCIe wifi card so I can get on the OLD router.

That all went very well actually.

So very long story short, what is everyone else using as a router, do you do the mesh thing, and what do you think of the TP Link AX3000 (router + 2 satellites? this is Canada btw) It's inbound tomorrow morning.

I'm glad I went out and got the wifi PCIe thing because now I realize how awesome it is to have backups in case of emergency situations with the internet.

I'm really curious how all you guys do your network.

I’m actually considering setting up a mesh network along side my wired one. Might upgrade my router/modem as well whilst I’m at it.

I had an Orbi mesh network. When it worked, it was covered my 2 story house and the yard flawlessly. When it didn't work, it was the biggest tech headache I ever had. I ended up scrapping it for an eero one, before Amazon purchased the company. The unit with satellites works great with minimum input. My only complaints are that is is not nearly as customizable as the orbi system was. And since the Amazon purchase, alot of features are becoming additional subscription driven.

This is where I ran into the problem (that I fixed but cost me $45, which is fine vs my panic about no internet on my weekend off)

The Netgear Orbi mesh thing was awesome.......I think we got around 6 years out of it.

Prior to that, I had a wifi card in my PC. An expensive one. So when I got the Orbi I was like, I don't need wifi on my motherboard because I can go ethernet to satellite.

I sold it and made out pretty well to be honest. But money is ALMOST no object when suddenly you can't get on the internet as freely as you're used to, right?

Always have a backup PC, network plan I guess is what I'm saying........

I'll update on the TP Link mesh thing later..............but again for sure really curious what others on here do (more at home than anything) for network, and also your backup plan if something like a router fails on you out of nowhere.

Asus RTAC86u been using it for a 3 storey townhouse and works fine. Have everything connected to it through wifi and only 2 desktops via wired. 1.5gbps down, 50mbit upload.
