Satya Nadella

In the meantime Ford’s current CEO, Alan Mulally, and Satya Nadella, executive vice president of cloud and enterprise at Microsoft, are now considered to be the favorites. An internal document described the ideal CEO candidate as having “extensive track record in managing complex, global organizations within a fast-paced and highly competitive market sector; track record of delivering top and bottom line results. Proven ability to lead a multi-billion dollar organization and large employee base”.

Stephen Elop, who is still working for Nokia at this point, once considered a favourite in the CEO race seems to have been ‘downgraded’ alongside Tony Bates, another strong internal candidate. Recent rumors suggested that Elop had a radical vision for Microsoft’s future that included killing off Bing and possibly selling off the Xbox division.

Satya Nadella, is the executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, responsible for building and running the company’s computing platforms, developer tools and cloud services

Nadella worked with Sun Microsystems as a member of the technology staff before he joined Microsoft in 1992. In Microsoft, in the beginning he worked as the senior vice president of R&D for the Online Services Division and vice president of the Microsoft Business Division. Later, he was made the president of Microsoft’s $19 billion Server and Tools Business and led the transformation of the business and technology from client-server software to cloud infrastructure and services.

I'm glad Elop doesn't appear to be a contender. Look at the state of Nokia....

Somebody rich getting richer. Excuse me for not caring.

I will be happy as long as its not the guys who think abot killing xbox.

I'll vote for an engineer above any salesman. Satya is a cool guy and I think the right man for the job. The only con is that its an internal candidate, I think MS will benefit from someone from the outside.

Oh come on, just bring Alan Mulally already! It's what you want anyways!

* That said, Azure lead sounds pretty cool as well.

Mulally was an engineer or is that who you are talking about? On paper Mulally is the better candidate, but he is old.

Would it be so bad? They wouldn't have to sell it or kill it. They could spin it off into a separate enterprise.

Imagine a small board of directors, a board that's highly gamer centric and making gamer centric decisions. No more conflicts with the big company board that is totally focused on investors.

More importantly you'd have a platform fully dedicated towards gaming without having other divisional products being shoehorned or trojaned in for whole company product synergy.

What alot of people seem to fear the most could end up being the very thing that ensures the platform's future.

They should spin off Xbox to whatever designers and engineers made the 360. That was a great console.

they would not have the funds, so it would die
Microsoft is moving towards devices, so the xbox fits into
its scheme of things

No, that's not how spin-offs work. Like any division that spun off, it would be funded and backed by PRO Xbox members of the Microsoft board. I wouldn't be surprised if Gates himself would be a major investor. This would also effect the size of the spin-off because if you can get enough deep pockets behind the plan to subsidize a new company then you'd have those investors with a secured premium for the new company's IPO when it's eventually offered. So cash wouldn't be a problem.

So you'd have all the benefits of a new company, new IPO and an existing infrastructure and staff that can hit the ground running immediately. Very lucrative, and it's been a proven strategy for many industries. For gamers it would simply mean that you have a gamer centric executive board making the big decisions in the company. The Xbox Divison on it's own, making it's own decisions for it's main demographic.............gamers.

They should make me the next CEO.

I will delegate like all my duties for the most part to super ambitious people who have a good track record in the required fields. I will use my super CEO powers to get Rallisport Challenge 3 made, a new Crimson Skies, another Amped with the controls of the first two. Rare will receive complete freedom to develop what they want, and a blank check and unlimited employees of their choosing to create 1 game per year. Also Xbox will play .mkv files.

Hmmmmm, what else would I do............

6 figures please :D

I think you need to add a little more. My suggestion: bring back Peter Molyneux to a special position created for him in MS Studios where he becomes the chief creative director of everything, with the caveat that once he has his ideas he shares them with the studio and they figure out what can and will be done, and PM has to shut the f*** up about them until they're ready to launch.

How about just Molyneux for CEO?
