MS

Sony would happily wait till the PS5 was out to announce the price if it meant waiting for MS

I think it could be a game of chicken for awhile. Sony likely wants to sit back and undercut them a bit. MS may not want to make that easy for them.

It really depends if MS is ok with being a little more expensive or if they really want to put the pressure on Sony. I don't think MS is going to want Sony to undercut them by $50-100.

9.2 TF's $449 PS5
10.7 TF's $500 PS5
11.4 TF's $500 PS5

10.3 TF's XSX $500
12.2 TF's XSX $549

Are my guesses.

I think Sony will announce the price 1st.

They will both be in or around the same price so when the price gets announced is kind of irrelevant.

If Xbox is $100 more than the PS5 with specs that are rumored to be pretty close, this may be the last Xbox generation.
I dont see that ever happening. Kinect was the reason for the price difference last gen

I'm just calling bulls***. MS will announce price at E3 regardless of what Sony has or has not done.MS don't care about selling consoles, remember. So, being in price standoff seems utterly pointless from their perspective.

Sony will first. Phil said he doesn’t want to lose to price and performance this time. He wants more and more Xbox consoles in the ecosystem.

I'm not going to wager a guess of price of either besides expensive.

As for who reveals first, my gut says MS will reveal a price at E3. I want to believe Sony will do a dedicated event for the PS5 sometime after E3.

If MS is announcing two consoles and two price points, one of which will definitely be cheaper, it helps remove the sticker shock compared to having only one premium item. They will announce first.

Honestly...$399, $449 or $499, does it really matter? It doesn't for me. I mean, $399 isn't peanuts, a hundred more isn't changing the hit on my economy considerably. I'm buying an xbox day one, a ps5 prob when first price drop hits. Doesn't matter if it's a $100 price difference. Hard pressed to see anyone here changing their opinion either tbh

Lose what? Did he say that before or after he said he eoesn't care about console wars and selling the most hardware isn't his goal?

The year he constantly said he doesn't care about selling hardware.
But then creates the most powerful hardware (supposedly) with Series X, and said they want more console generations after that too.

All I know is if I were running MS Xbox brand, I'd want to match Sony's price for the most powerful model. IMHO you have to do something to get all that PS base to consider your console. Backwards compatibility may factor in as well. All those people with PS games out there can just buy a PS5 and keep using the same games.

If MS comes in even a little more expensive, people will factor in having to buy new games as well. I realize they could go cheaper with the lower model, but if I'm MS, I'm being aggressive. Lose money on the consoles, knowing you'll sell more services later on, and the price of the hardware will drop.

Exactly. Their messaging is all over the place. Every other month they contradict themselves. It is hilarious.

Only games that will make BC a big factor are games this year, since they seem to be line singleplayer games makes it less of an issue. Not sure why people forget that the majority dont finish games.Look at GT Sport, less than 15% played the game for 24 hours.

Honestly they should just give us all the hardware for a trial basis and then we decide later how much we should pay for it.

Honestly, MS might make more money if they just gave the console for free.

I just think that's unrealistic. I don't think MS wants top spot so bad as to lose money per console again. They care a lot less where you play as long as it's their ecosystem. If it's more powerful, it WILL cost more. I will be happy to be wrong, but I don't think I am...

There's no guarantee for sure, but MS just got a $10 billion dollar gov't contract for Azure. They are big enough to lose money short term to play the long game if they want.

My big worry if I were MS would be people who bought a PS4 just sticking with it. I could totally see the average gamer looking at the new Xbox and seeing it as impressive, but just buying what they know. They have to do something bold to win some of those people IMHO. Make it the same price and more powerful, and then you'll turn some heads.

You have to remember, people have more subscription services now too, so switching for a one console owner is a bigger deal.
