Nintendo has emerged victorious in a patent infringement lawsuit dating back to 2009.
In February of that year, Texas-based
non-practicing entity Wall Wireless LLC sued Nintendo over a patent pertaining to wireless communication technology which was allegedly infringed on by the DS and DSi handhelds.
Half a decade later, the Japanese Patent Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office have both ruled that Nintendo's systems did not infringe Wall's patents.
Nintendo of America's vice president and deputy general counsel Richard Medway said: "We are very pleased to see the US case dismissed, and also to have the Japanese Patent Office confirm that Nintendo does not infringe Wall's Japanese patents.
"Nintendo vigorously defends patent lawsuits and other proceedings when we believe we have not infringed another party's patents. It does not matter where such cases are filed or if it takes more than five years to vindicate our position. Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others."
Earlier this month, Dutch electronics company
Philips sued Nintendo of America, claiming it is wilfully selling products that infringe on two of its patents related to motion-sensing controls. It is seeking damages in addition to a ban on the sale of multiple Nintendo products including Wii, Wii Remote, Wii U and Wii U GamePad.
