Microsoft did this to us.
Online multiplayer was always free on PC and Playstation. Microsoft got away with charging for it for years until Sony and now Nintendo are doing it too.
Thanks Microsoft.
Yea but at least at the time they had a unified service across all of their games with voice chat. At the time there wasn't anything like it.
True, but everyone had voice chat.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around people upset at someone charging for services provided. The moral failing, if any, lies with those expecting a product for free. Xbl and PSN both offer plenty of reasons to have an asking price. Anyone getting upset over that is wrong. It was going to happen one way or the other. If not Microsoft then someone else.
Don't be upset because someone decided to charge money for a service (that actually made it simple to play online with your friends on a console) when others were giving it freely with inferior results.
Also let's not forget that Xbox Live was and still is arguably the best online setup for a console. You paid for what you got and it took Sony years to catch up and when they did coincidentally they started charging money for it.
5/6 bucks a month is not a bad price.Paying for a robust online system isn't the issue its the price that's the issue with Sony and Microsoft.
Now Nintendo has the price part right but the online system isn't robust.
It is free on the PC so i don't agree.5/6 bucks a month is not a bad price.
Only because they have no choice and they aren't unified. Beyond that, MS and Sony provide more than enough services, deals, and features to justify their pricing. It is free on the PC so i don't agree.
