Opinions on Bioshock Infinite?

Infinite is the kind of game you want to take your time on; at least on your first play through. The atmosphere is great and it'd be a shame to rush through that.

Storyline as a whole is good, but I really do not like the ending. The more I think about it, the more it seems like a cheap way to develop sequels. But the technics of storytelling is the worst part. Key informations are hidden in a form of voice record, which makes it really hard to understand endgame plots.

Other than that, no way is it a bad game. It is memorable, it is fun. But at least the script and direction are flawed.
That was no problem for me. I got just about all of the recordings just by casually playing.

For me: Bioshock 2 > Bioshock 1 > Bioshock 3

It's my least favorite. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, though. Chances are quite high that if you like the series so far, there's no reason you wouldn't enjoy Infinite.

I'd also like to add that the game is worth playing just for the sake of Elizabeth alone. Very life-like animations and AI features for a side-kick.

Pretty much sums it up!

Combat: Bioshock 2 > Infinite > Bioshock 1 (While B1's combat was far more varied, Infinite slightly edges it out because it's much tighter)
Story: Infinite > Bioshock 1 > Bioshock 2
Setting: Bioshock 1 = Bioshock 2 > Infinite
Characters: Bioshock 1 (Highlights: Ryan & Cohen)>>>>> Infinite (Captain Cornelius Slate & Elizabeth) >>> Bioshock 2 (Uhh..who was in this one? I forgot)
The tweeeeest's: Bioshock 1 (Would you kindly...), Infinite (When we find out who Elizabeth really is. I mean I kind of saw it coming from a mile off, but still a good twist) > Bioshock 2 (was there even a twist here?)

Continuing to enjoy the game (Bioshock Infinite), starting to get hooked on playing. I have to say, Elizabeth is a great companion. She's the best AI companion I've ever had. Her reactions are almost always appropriate to the situation, her facial expressions are good, she is helpful -- always picking up something or helping out in battle -- she never gets stuck on geometry or loses her way, and her voice actor is good. Re. the latter, there was one instance where Elizabeth was crying, and I thought to myself, "The voice actor isn't doing a very good job -- that sounds like fake crying." Well, I soon learned that it was fake crying; her voice actor did a good job of conveying that.

The only thing that doesn't quite sit well is the maturity of her character. It doesn't make sense to me that someone raised in isolation would be so socially facile. More likely they would be very odd and have great difficulty forming relationships, Asperbergery at the least, and be very scared about being "out." I can understand why they didn't want to go the realistic route on that one, though -- it's much more engaging to have a socially adept and active companion, rather than one who is autistic and scared out of her wits all the time.

The dialog between them is also very good. Not much repetition, and they always seem to moving on to new topics. My only other gripe (minor) is that they edit the two actors' lines so that there is often no discernable pause between them. It would be more effective with a few pauses.

The story is good. It keeps you thinking. I'm not sure I'm following it all or really care to, but I like the fact that Levine gives you some intellectual material to chew on. I found the Ayn Rand material in Bioshock 1 too cerebral and dry for my tastes, but this is better, because it deals with this human being in front of you, her origins, and what role she plays in the society. Plenty of mystery to keep you guessing, too.

The combat is pretty fun. I have heard many people comment that the Vigors don't seem as important here, and I'd echo that, too. I often forget to use them. I wish you could carry more than two guns, but oh well, that's how the game is set up, and it does require you to choose weapons carefully. I'm glad we have a lot more outdoor environments to fight in. I enjoyed the underwater world of Bioshock 1, but it did start to feel too dark and enclosed after a while. I like this better. Head shots in the open sun.

Good game, I'm enjoying it.

Yeah I definitely agree with this. I don't think I really used more than 2 or 3 vigors the whole game. Just didn't have a need really. Glad you're enjoying it though, I agree with most of your observations.

I have to wonder if the state of the vigors is due to the change in combat mechanics late in development. Remember, when the game was first shown Elizabeth was to help by buffing your vigors to an insane degree. What was shock jockey would become a lightning storm with her help, use TK and you could make a HUGE ball of molten steel and so forth. That's the only thing I can think of to explain why the vigors are so... lackluster.

Yeah I never really used more than 3 myself either. It just didn't seem like the vigors were as an integral part of the story this time either. In BS1/2 they were one of the main cruxes of the games

it should have been given a different name
bioshock one was my favorite
they simply cannot, could not follow up on thatu

I wouldn't go that far. I think it is a good game in the Bioshock franchise, it's definitely worthy of the "Bioshock" moniker. It has the franchise staple story and the what has become rote combat.

I have to agree. While I agree that Bioshock 1 is the best in the series. Bioshock Infinite is still a fine game and worthy of the name. The artistic direction was also a nice change up from the more dirty games that proceeded it too.

I'm about two-thirds of the way through the game now. I just had my showdown with
Lady Comstock.

I'm starting to get tired of the combat. I can mix things up with weapons and vigors, but in the end, it still feels pretty much the same. What do I expect from a shooter, right? Lots of shooting. But it's starting to feel like, "here we go again..." It's feeling more like a chore than fun. Not sure why exactly. I guess I wish there was more to do than just run around shooting people and waiting for the next bit of story to unfold.

The story is losing me, too. It's too abstract. After the third or fourth quantum twist, I started to lose interest. It seems too far fetched for me, I suppose. But more than that, the constant shifts in reality and characters make it hard for me to feel grounded in my relationships to anyone or anything in the game world. So, at a certain point, I detached, and the story became more of a mental abstraction than a tale I cared about. Come to think of it, the original Bioshock struck me the same way, as sort of a cerebral exercise.

Anyway, I'm finding myself losing interest in combat and story, at about the 2/3 mark. I'm not entirely bored, so I'll keep going, but I just wanted to update my impressions.

Finished up. The last battle was a b1tch. The ending was a head-scratcher. I went and read a piece online about it, and I think I get it. Trippy, dude. I think they tried to make it a little more trippy than it actually came off, but hey, I give them credit for trying something mind-bending.

8/10 for me. A good shooter, but with some weaknesses I've mentioned already. The Elizabeth character was the standout, for me. Very well done.

Yeah the last battle sucked, I found it varied depending what vigors I had powered up. I ended up using possession the and return to sender and I found it alot more manageable with that combo. Like you mentioned earlier the combat gets pretty tired especially near the end, and the final battle, talk about anti-climactic. They could have done so much more with it at least coulda made use of the
Handymen
.

Yep, this is dead on. I actually think part 3 is a distant third compared to the first 2.

The only thing I didn't like about the ending was that

I spent the whole game hoping to bang my daughter.
:really:

I don't know why they didn't use the
Handymen
more? I don't know if that's really a spoiler but, I don't wanna burst anyone's bubble. That was prolly one of the coolest things in Infinite IMHO
