Plasma tech may be dead by the end of 2014...

That's too bad. My current 60" Panny plasma has awesome picture quality. And I never saw any LCD tv back around 2007 beat the picture quality of my old 42" Panny plasma. I remember scoping out 42" tvs back then and I can't see how anyone could pick those horrible ghosting LCDs at the time. Though I think comparable sized plasmas cost a bit more at the time, so maybe it was a price thing.

Plasma never seemed to get the kudos it deserved. Ok, the things weighe double what an LCD or LED is, but then again once you plant that tv somewhere it's not like you'e moving it every week. And for big LCDs and LEDs, everyone will ask a friend to help them move it or mount it anyway. Very few people will risk trying to do it solo.

One thing I don't think plasmas have (at least the models I've seen) is that LCD/LED feature where it literally doubles the frame rate of a tv show. I know some people hate it, but seeing it at a friend's house (I think it was a new Sharp Aquos), I liked that soap opera look watching sports! And tv commercials seemed more smooth and interesting for me too.

Pour one out for plasma tech. I got a pioneer Kuro and and Panasonic Plasma in the house. Both are solid performers, especially at night. I hope the emerging tech to replace it is just as good.

The 50" Panasonic plasma I have has been the best of the 3 HDTVs I currently own. The heat the thing puts out is pretty bad and I'm sure it wastes a ton of electric compared to the LED TVs. Because of that, I'd never buy one again, but it sucks that plasma is being phased out.

I love my Panny Plasma, best HDTV I've owned by a mile. The power consumption on newer models isn't as atrocious as older sets, still higher than LED/LCDs though, plus it keeps me warm in the winter :D

Not of picture quality.
Glad I have my panny plasma VT50 I'll be rocking this until OLED becomes affordable.

<--has no experience with Plasma version. So I probably am bit biased about LCD/LED. I just like it myself. Samsung is an amazing brand, though.

What size is your Panny again? You could prob sell it and get a good amount as they are worth money now that production has ceased.

You could get one of those 4K LED Backlit/Full Array Coming from Toshiba/Vizio or get the 2013 LG 4K LA9700(what I did) which also has it.

Those Vizio reference series 4K sets do look really good, I'm hoping they release some OLED sets as well.

Makes me sad.. i just bought a 60" Samsung Plasma 3D TV not too long ago.. stunning picture stood out to me when I was in the store, as it was displayed next to LCD/LED tv's of the same size. Unlike most dept stores, the one here runs separate, not daisy chained, signals to all display units so the picture isn't degraded. It was an easy choice going plasma.

Oh well, it will last me many years, and in that time, other tech tv's will drop in price.

I can't do Vizio. I got one of their LCDs a couple of years back and their quality control left a lot to be desired. They may have gotten better since then but "once bitten, twice shy".
