You really think the only people buying a seriesS are hardcore fans on a budget? You've officially crossed into Shawn territory congratulations.

This is what I think: with the Series S only having Game Pass (without a single exclusive) to pull its weight, this doesn't seem much different from the One X or One S running that same Game Pass WITHOUT upgrading to a Series S. But it doesn't stop there, that tiny storage is also used by the OS, which gives that all digital console no room to breathe. By the time you upgrade to one of its proprietary cards, you will likely be spending more than what you would be spending on a PS5 digital by then. Not to mention the name kinda sounds like the current systems anyway, which may or may not be very confusing to the consumer.

But we'll entertain it and say Sony is very concerned about this SKU. Everything here was very obvious, but as usual, Phil Spencer is the only one talking right now. 👍

I think someone who wants a real next gen machine will get a Series X or a PS5, the Series S is an entry model and it while it is a good deal for what you get it's not going to do everything the others do just at a lower res there will be other cutbacks. Why would you go with a Series S if you could afford one of the other machines? There is nothing wrong with being on a budget btw so I hope nobody takes me saying that as some kind of insult, I don't make money I take care of my Mom and don't make a dime doing it and gaming is the only entertainment I have so what little bit of money I do have goes to this hobby.

Plus I was responding to a hypothetical question about the digital PS5 being $299 which isn't going to happen but that would make the Series S look bad in comparison, if they come in at $100 more it's already going to be a tough choice for someone who's not really a big fan of either company and just wants something new.

The Series S could be a pretty attractive price point for both casuals and even for people wanting another console, I can see a lot of people getting the ps5 day one then being like you know what a seriesS for that much bundled with GPU and EA play seems like a pretty good bargain, then bang you get games from both companies without having to break the bank to get the best version of both.

The thing I keep coming back to with GP is I've had it 3 times and there just isn't anything on it I want to play that I haven't already played before, most of the games are older 3rd party games and I always get stuff at launch if it interests me. On paper the value is there but it's like signing up for nextflix because it has a bunch of stuff but then scrolling through and not being able to find anything you want to watch, at that point it's a waste of money.

I could see people buying the Series S as a secondary system but only if MS starts putting out exclusives that appeal to them, right now all 3rd party games will look better on PS5 than the One S so there isn't really going to be any reason to switch over just because it's a little cheaper.

With the Gaikai cloud technology, our goal is to make free exploration possible for virtually any PlayStation 4 game in the PlayStation Store. Imagine you’re in the store, checking out the latest titles and you see something that catches your eye: no problem. You can simply press the X button to hop in and start playing the game. Now in the past, not all games were available, and the ones that were had to be kind of the ‘lite’ version, where they’d been edited down so they could be downloaded reasonably quickly. With Gaikai and the PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to instantly experience anything that you want. I’ve always liked that concept of try it for free, share it if you like it, and pay only for the games you fall in love with.

Ok, now let's fast forward for a second...

I'm not saying these things are going to happen, but like the the PS3, Sony had time to think about what they wanted to do with the PS4, and so we saw a few of those things. With the PS4 Sony has had time to think about their plans for the PS5. They are silent right now and likely for good reason. See, there is a difference between competing on price than there is to compete on value. Value is where Sony is strongest.

Watch their hand.

I have definitely discovered games I never would have played

To be fair, this isn't the thread to be discussing this topic, I do think it is a great deal for casuals and people looking to try something they might otherwise give a miss.

Doesn’t the os on ps5 take up like 75 gigs of space?

You act like everyone rocks a gaming PC, yes they aren't true exclusives to xbox but they are console exclusive games, yes the storage is pretty small I would've gone bigger if I was MS, but has plenty of next gen features, it's fine to support one company, but your posts are always borderline obsessive and it really just gets tiring.

That's fine, I have tried games and deleted them rather quickly for the most part, I think there was one I ended up playing that I was on the fence about and didn't end up buying but that's it. Nothing wrong with offering it as an option I just don't see making that the focus for an entire platform. If PS Now can start offering more downloads as time goes on the service will be semi competitive but they are never going to put their 1st party games on it at launch, they sell too many copies to give that up on the chance that people will stay subbed continuously. They'll never have downloadable PS3 games I'm sure but honestly that generation I'm all for remakes/remasters over playing them how they looked, on X1X a lot of the BC games look like crap, the ones that got the extra 4K enhancements look good for what they are but I've been playing fable 2 again and it gets really ugly a lot of the time, very blurry in motion.

Will the ps5 digital match the Xbox series x price? I feel Sony is in too good of a position that they can’t afford to sell at a loss, especially since they didn’t sell at a loss since it’s release.

I think the digital can definitely at least match the SeriesX on price, 4k drives are probably a pretty good chunk of the price, Sony know they have the confidence and market share heading into next gen they can offer a more expensive console and still come out tops.

I'm not sure on other countries outside of the US, but physical is still a lot cheaper then digital where I am, I can find some deals time to time, but physical is the way to go for now, heck I'm still yet to buy a 4k movie because they're 40 bucks plus even older movies.

When the Xbox One S came out with a 4k Blu-ray drive, that was estimated to cost MS about 33.50: https://www.businesswire.com/news/h...kit-Teardown-Analysis-Microsoft’s-Xbox-Brings

I think there is no universe in existence where there PS5 digital launches at a higher price than XSX, still, but that's more because of the benefits of having everything go through PSN rather than not getting a cut when someone buys used games, not having to pay for shipping and packaging and having a retail channel expecting a cut as well.

It hasn’t been confirmed yet but if it does, it won't be surprising. For it to require that much space, though, the OS will obviously be very robust. The only difference between Sony's upgrade solution and the Series X is Sony’s solution isn't proprietary at all. So even though their storage will be expensive, it won't be nearly as expensive as a proprietary solution. In fact, what you may get for an off the shelf solution, it may almost if not double as a proprietary solution at the same price.

that’s a lot for an os though, no? What is it doing? Wonder if it’s emulating the ps4 os as well...

windows 10 is like 15 gigs and the new series x/s only use 4 gigs.

true, it isn’t proprietary to the extent that it is on Xbox, but it’s still got to be compatible.

It's not the PC that is the problem; it's everything that surrounds Game Pass as a service. You don't even need a Series S or X to use it. Yet, this was the huge bomb from that reveal, not the price. The original Xbox consoles can use it no problem - especially with the controllers being forward compatible and all. Heck, even a mobile device can access it and play online. When I tell you the exclusivity for this device has gone out the window, it's not to be harsh, it's just a well known fact. I honestly didn't see ANYHING surprising about that announcement. I thought it was extremely obvious to be truthful about it. By no means is it a bad deal IF you really just want a new system. I just don't see this as any real advantage that Sony can't easily catch when you start to compare overall value. And believe me, i know how that sounds right now.

Keep watching, you'll see what I mean.

If the footprint is true, it was needed for a very good reason, and not for something mediocre. But again, that is a rumor and nothing more.

Regarding proprietary, it's no different from any other custom solution but this one is external and can be swapped out like a PS1 and PS2 memory card except this is a 1TB SSD. If you think SSDs are expensive now, you haven't seen nothing yet.
