Note that the life cycle itself doesn't have to match up with a new console as shown by the PS2 and Wii, 360 most currently.

X1 and PS4 - I'm confident in saying both consoles will experience a solid decade of content. Maybe losing steam to the next thing in the seventh or eighth year. I'll be happy about that personally, as I really enjoy a long life cycle and the way a console can really be pushed to it's limits. We saw some great things done on the 360 and PS3 because of it, so here's hoping for a similar trend.

Wii U - To be frank, unless it catches on, I don't see this lasting more than a total of five years. It's just not that popular, sales haven't been great, and it generally has failed to produce a feeling of excitement post launch. It doesn't help that they lost a ton of third party support either, which is vital for a solid life cycle in my opinion.

X1 and PS4 - They will go out at the same time, whenever that may be. I'll guess 8 years.

Wii U - < 5 years

It's going to depend on world economies IMO. If consumers will have them, I'd expect new consoles in 5 -6 years tops. But if finances continue to suck in general, I could see 8 years.

I think we will transition into a full streaming until 2020. By then both Xbox One and PS4 will turn into a video streaming consumption device.
