PS VITA NO LONGER AVAILABLE AT MAJOR RETAILERS

Posted by Steve Hannley on 02 Jul 2014

Not only was the PS Vita almost completely absent from Sony’s E3 showing, but now seems to be absent from major U.S. retailers as well. All of the Vita models and packages — even the recently released Borderlands 2 bundle that included the new model — are no longer available directly from Amazon, GameStop, Walmart or Target. Physical stores also seem to be out of the handheld, as searches for stock and calls to local outlets came up with zero results.

I still have my OLED version, collecting all those yummy PS+ offerings.

I never bought one but i came close. Maybe if they're really letting it die and it gets really cheap i'll take the plunge. A PS Vita at $100 would be a steal to me.

Just terrible. I thought people on various forums were exaggerating not being able to find them in stores anymore. I had high hopes for this device, especially after playing Uncharted and imagining how future games would be. I only own 4 games and I guess it looks like my library won't grow much more unless I can find some good deals on games.

It's difficult to find a PlayStation Vita to buy right now, but Sony is working to "replenish" North American supplies, a representative from the company told Polygon today.

The recently slimmed handheld has been difficult to find in retail stores and in online outlets like Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop. For example, the limited edition Borderlands 2 PS Vita bundle, which was released in May, is unavailable online at each of those outlets (though it is available through Amazon resellers).

The disappearing handhelds are a result of increased demand, a Sony representative told Polygon, and it may take some time to stock store shelves.

"We're seeing healthy consumer demand for PS Vita globally, particularly in markets like Japan," the representative said. "The U.S. launch of the slimmer and lighter PS Vita has generated strong interest among gamers, and we're working to replenish supply here to ensure continued momentum leading into the holidays."

It was over before it started. Such a shame as the PS Vita is a beastly little machine.

Its a nice system but I don't get who the f*** it's aimed at. Most of the games are just console games so why the hell do I want to play a full console game on a handheld when I could play them on my PS3 or 360 when vita came out on my HDTV.

I did not get one cause of that over priced memory card BS Sony pulled.

Its never felt like it had a chance. Still amazes me that the PSP supposedly sold 80M!

I love my Vita I got one of the last non bundled models with the OLED screen and non built in memory back in the spring and I am incredibly happy with it.

I.want to buy one right now honestly. Hopefully someone has one

Do it... join the dark side.... oh and while you're at it do pick up a 64GB card and getPersona 4 Golden, Tearaway, Killzone Mercenary, PixrlJunk Monsters HD and Dragon's Crown.

Actually I'm gonna just get the 32 gig card. I was thinking of getting the 64 gig card, but thats gonna run me like an extra 50 bucks and I dunno if it's worth getting just so I can keep 30 games on it at once.

I used to roll with a 32GB card... then I moved on to a 64GB. Just try the 32 GB out... later on when you feel the need to have more games that you want to play with and without deleting old ones you can get a 64 GB one... minimizes the need for me to buy the physical game.
