PS3 & X360 visual gap bigger than PS4 & X1 gap (Destiny)

Not exactly news. The 360 and PS3 have been out long enough for the visual gap to grow between them. The new next gen consoles are just running a last gen game at max specs.

How funny. The gap between the 360 version and the PS3 is larger than the gap between the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Really Flynn? This is Bungie's first PS3 game ever so obviously the architecture is new to them. The PS3 has a steep learning curve that only developers who have had experience with it could take advantage of. While on the other hand, the 360's all Bungie ever knew last gen so they'd probably know how to develop for it like the back of their hand, it's not really a surprise the 360 has a little graphical edge over the PS3.

Halo: Combat Evolved 2001 Xbox, Windows, Mac
Halo 2 2004 Xbox, Windows
Halo 3 2007 Xbox 360
Halo 3: ODST 2009 Xbox 360
Halo: Reach 2010 Xbox 360
Destiny 2014 PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Flyn you are really trying too hard... Bet you miss trolling the PS Section huh? Good thing you're banned from showing yourself there,

Isn't this like 9 year old news that the Xbox 360 was easier to develop for and typically had the better looking, better performing, and less glitchy multiplatform games? Not to mention this is Bungie's first PS3 game.

Last generation, Microsoft had the cheaper, better performing console, that was easier to develop for. This along with good PR, Microsoft's focus on gaming and core games, helped them gain a significant amount of marketshare last gen. This gen.....we'll see if they can reverse their early mistakes.

Most multiplatform games did look better on 360 last gen, and with bungie's extra experience with 360 this definitely is no surprise.

Flynn, what's so funny about my post and everyone else's post here? That they are true.

You don't have any real argument here, so you just mark everyone's post as funny.

Ah, the good ol' SDF.

It's pretty funny that the gap in last Gen consoles visual fidelity is larger than the gap in current Gen visual fidelity...

The posts are funny because:

1. Predictable
2. Straw man. The thread isn't "hey look, 360 version is better!" - if that were the thread, your posts would make sense, but that's not the thread. 360 versions are almost always better...

What's entertaining to me is how some of you have claimed how much bigger the hardware gap is this Gen than last... Yet, the visual gap is LARGER between last Gen consoles than current Gen in Destiny.

It's funny. :-) ... And I love it.

Differences are bigger last gen Flynn!?
haha no 720p vs 1080p,900p vs 1080p and 30fps vs 60fps are MUCH bigger differences and we know who has shown to have this advantage.

Even last gen was a XB loss when comparing non 3rd party games visuals as we know who painted the prettier picture then as well.

You all full of loss Flynn

Flynn. The visual gap is larger because this is effectively Bungie's first PS3 game and like their 4th on the 360. Is it that hard to understand?

You saw how much of an improvement the PS3 games were at the end of the gen than the beginning and that's because of the dev's experience with it. This is their first shot at it, it'd be nothing short of a miracle if they could get it up to parity with the 360.

Talking about last gen visual gap? Am I missing something? Haven't we moved on?

I'm not a Sony fanboy. But I do find it funny when a fanboy calls other people fanboys. You are one of the most predictable and biased posters here.

1. The replies in this thread are predictable because they are true and are common sense. It's like asking what color the grass is. The responses to that question will be predictable as well.

2. This thread is essentially bragging about how much better the 360 version looks (so much that it's bigger than the gap between the PS4 and Xbox One version). The gap between PS4 and One version is very small so saying that the 360 and PS3 gap is bigger isn't saying much at all. Not to mention that the PS3 was a harder platform to develop for and Bungie was previously a first party dev that had already made 3 games on the 360. When you have 7 years of additional experience working on a gaming machine, it's going to show.

What's entertaining to me is how you have to brag about one game looking better on last gen consoles in order to make yourself feel good.

I didn't call you a fanboy. :-)

...and just as relevant as saying the grass is green. Yes, the posts are true, but they're not relevant. Obviously X360 games generally look/perform better than PS3 games... but that's not the point of the thread.

Mr. Titan, I appreciate your tenacity, but the fact remains that many of the SDF members made a stink about the hardware gap this gen, and how much larger it is than last gen. This title shows a larger gap between last gen consoles then current gen consoles. Therefore, it's pretty clear that perceived hardware gaps by you guys aren't very meaningful (or even valid) - especially if a cross plat game like Destiny will show a larger gap between PS3 and X360 than PS4 and X1.

What's entertaining to me is how you have to brag about one game looking better on last gen consoles in order to make yourself feel good.

It's less of a "brag", and more of a "take a look, you're perceptions about hardware gaps may be less valid than you think"... and frankly, I think it's a great example of that.

Pretty much this. I mean, honestly....in this particular forum, most people really don't care anymore about the differences between last gen games, as most of us have moved on.

What's even more entertaining, is seeing the MS crowd get all pissy when someone talks about how PS4 tends to be ahead of XB1 when it comes to cross platform games.....but not only did they do the same last gen, but continue to do so, on platforms that not many here care about anyway. As if that somehow deflected attention off of this gen....lol.

.

Not really. The gap is pretty large for this game, but like others have said, we're talking about a developer that had ZERO experience working on the PS3 platform.
With that said, most PS3/360 cross platform games had very little visual gap, and certainly no where near the 1080p vs 720p differences. Just because this game's gap is almost non-existent, doesn't mean many of the other games aren't. Many of this gen's games have more gap differences than last gen games. Of course, this gen is still very early, so really, it doesn't matter much. Pretty soon we're going to start seeing games on near equal footing.

not bad info because if you have only 360/ps3 then this performance difference can be the deciding factor. most folks have not moved on to new consoles believe it or not, lots of my friends on 360 are playing destiny.

Well, the PS3 is more powerful than the 360. 50%+

Flynn having a meltdown after looking at the Tier 2 Xbox sales. There's always Tier 3, right?

Yeah. Im not sure how some of these guys arent getting whats being said in the article. How can you not understand the jest? Its only saying that the gap between the PS3 and XBO360 is bigger than the current gen. Flynn is simply stating that the overblown state of this gen's gap between hardware's isnt quite what people make it out to be. Who didnt know that? o_O

We already explained to you why there is a larger than normal gap for the PS3 and 360. You extrapolating this info to every other game out there right now is amusing to say the least. It's like "oh look, this one game destiny has a larger gap between the PS3 and 360 than for ps4 and X1, therefore all the other gaps that were released sinch launch are meaningless. "

That's like me saying "golf club is 1080p on ps4 and 720p on X1, THEREFORE PS4 And X1 gap must be bigger than last gen's! All other smaller gaps in other games' performance are meaningless since this situation fits my argument more! lolol."

I know you work for ms, Flynn, but come on now, come on. ;)
