Ready Player One...

No I'm not. I'm disagreeing with your comment that I quoted. I have no opinion on this movie although I'm not expecting much from it.
Ok, I see. But the core of what I am saying, is that I mainly disagree with that review's assessment that the movie has no heart. There's actually a lot more of that than I was expecting, not to mention more of it than I have seen in an action flick in quite some time. They are just too jaded to notice it

I wish that I could share some off the flaws that I find with this movie, as well as some of the awesomeness! This movie was made more for people like us, much more than your average reviewer, anyway. I'm trying to be very respectful of not giving anything away.

OK, good to know. I guess I'm setting myself a low bar for this so I'll be either pleasantly surprised by it or or merely indifferent to it. I think the heavy CGI may be putting me off as well.

That's never really a bad plan.

Also, it's worthy to note that if you're not familiar with the book, the Oasis is an interconnected universe of worlds that contains videogames, commerce, and education (although I believe the later was omitted to satisfy the ending). There are varying degrees of Realistic to Non-Realistic CGI characters and worlds. Only the last trailer or so really conveyed that. There are parts of this movie that's akin to early Disney cartoon/live-action hybrids... I guess I should include Roger Rabbit, since out it already brought up here.

I loved roger rabbit so that’s good to hear.

The movie had heart. Romantic was rushed. That ended up being a good thing so it didn’t overpower the movie.

Review makes some points. It’s also overly harsh for the sake of being a negative clickbait article.

Movie isn’t terrible. It isn’t great. It’s a good watch.

Not terrible, not great but worth a watch is pretty much what I thought this would be. And I agree, I think the reviewer was very overly harsh on it (despite not having seeing it yet)

That reviewer took offense with the relationship part in a way that I just couldn't read anymore of it. That's really out there. He just went too crazy with the hate. Why exactly are you hung up on that particular reviewer's opinion, anyway? After reading that, I will likely never read a review from that person again.

To be clear, I have always said that the movie has some flaws. To me, its main flaw is it's corny bad guys. I'm sure it's intentional, but this could be more difficult to stomach for some. Personally, I can deal with it since it kind of seems fitting, with all of the 80s references. The movie contains about 1/8 the geek culture of the book, but it does still get geeky and it does get fun. It's at a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. Of course, this means 78% of critics liked it. I personally would probably rate it the same, at about a 78 out of 100. There are some great moments in the movie and there are some popcorn moments in there too. I would also watch it again, if for nothing else, to see the last battle over again. There is some real Spielberg magic in some of this movie.

I have a hard time reading critic reviews now days. So many just feel out of touch with just having a good time seeing a movie, and a lot just want clicks.

I go off regular people’s impressions on seeing a movie.

Doubt I get to see this in theater, but I can’t wait to watch it at home.

I will say this is the kinda movies that's best on the big screen, but I know a lot of us here have pretty capable home theaters. I just have a thing about seeing a Spielberg movie in the theater. There's an added nostalgia factor for me.

I don't have a TV.

I watch shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime on my Tablet or my RoG ASUS Laptop. Otherwise, I still like to catch a good movie at the Cinema.

Some movies really should be seen on the big Theater Screen to like Blade Runner 2049. I would have paid to see that on IMAX, but I don't have an IMAX screen near my town unfortunately.

I would love to see this in theater. It’s just harder for us to have time to get to the movies now and find a babysitter plus I work a lot.

Just got home, it was fun! Not amazing or anything. Nice popcorn flick to shut your brain off.

I would be lying if I didn’t smile at some of the pop culture references.

I feel like this movie needed more of an Epilogue perhaps read by Simon Pegg describing the positive more balanced approach to managing The OASIS. I guess to me Og seemed an integral character that was glossed over, but the whole time he had his own vision to make sense of Halliday's creation.

Seriously tho, how do you do a retro / nostalgia film on videogames and movies without POWERGLOVE Freddy?

I still think Sorrento should have just morphed into the Evil MC from Smash TV. It just seems appropriate for his character and avatar.

I-Rok could even be one of the front gunners.

In the book, I believe that everyone that made it to the last gate gets to choose a mech for the final battle. Sorrento had the same mech as the movie. Wade chose Leopardon from the Japanese Spider-Man TV series... Just to prove that he's geekiest of all.

...and Wade could have just picked Voltron, Gundam, Tranzor/Mazinger Z, just like most geeks, but no. Right at that moment, he picks Leopardon. Something most people reading have to look up in Wikipedia. That's when you know that Wade just went full geek-tard.

Great movie. A true love letter to gamers and game developers. Classic Spielberg shots (and that music) and a strong Zemekis vibe throughout the movie. Reminded me a lot of The Goonies. Can't wait for the blu ray so I can catch all of the references.

It's not a perfect movie, but what is, right? I don't really have anything to compare it to. As far as I know, RP1 is one of a kind. Goonies is a very interesting comparison in the tone and carefree attitude. Maybe the younger set, or just those with unjaded imagination look at RP1 differently. I'm glad I'm not alone in getting pure enjoyment from it. It's just so many things that I love combined! I'm really looking forward to seeing it again, though. I have a feeling I'll even eventually love the things that once stood out as flaws. All of those 80s movies have them too. Try watching John Carpenter's Halloween with someone who has never seen it... or probably any early John Carpenter movie, for that matter. Yes, I do think that this movie has that kind of seed that will blossom over time. Also, Gremlins and Goonies could only be from a time when people weren't so uptight, imo.

I mostly can't wait to get the 3D Blu-ray, since my lame local theater is... lame. My home theater is a much better experience. Movies like Jurassic Park 3D Blu-ray are just so much fun at home with a projection screen. I'm sure this one will be very fitting for being seen in 3D.

I loved that Alan Silvestri used part of his BTTF score in the zero g club scene (won't spoil it by saying where it was, just that it was well used).

How is it a movie villain gets Mecha-Godzilla and not once do they use the Absolute Zero Cannon?
