Some eagle eyed readers have spotted what could be a redesigned Wii U GamePad in the latest Japanese Mario Kart 8 commercial. There’s clearly something off with the GamePad as it appears to be smaller with a larger screen.

Definitely does look like a bigger screen. I'd be more interested in larger battery for the GamePad... in fact I may just go ahead and buy that now.

For me it would have to be a nice big improvement over the current model. Longer life, better shoulder buttons and real triggers would be enough to swoon me.

I dont use the pad much except for internet, netflix and where it is required in games.

The question is can I get one without having to rebuy the system.

If Nintendo sold the WIIU without what I think is a ridiculous tablet co trolley and just had a compatible Game Cube controller (or even just that scarce adapter) and by doing so could drop the price by $100 then I would buy one I a heartbeat. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised by doing just that they couldn't start competing with Sony and MS for sales, maybe not original Wii numbers but with the lineup coming out this year they could possibly win a couple months on the sales charts.

I don't own a WiiU (will eventually), but I have played one, and I like the tablet. Sure, I think for gamers like myself you also have to buy the Pro Controller, but I wouldn't want them to drop the tablet. I know when I get a WiiU I'm looking forward to it. Though, I am one of the people who really likes the Kinect, so maybe I'm just a sucker for innovation.

I can see them doing some cost cutting, but I really hope they keep the pad in the package. It really isn't that bad, these days gamers are just asinine and more conservative than Rush Limbaugh on a Tea Party convention. Anything that isn't just an improvement of graphics is being booed of the stage. While if one plays the Wonderful 101 and what they do with the gamepad I certainly can see the added value.

That said a redesign that is smaller and sleeker is never a bad idea :). So I'm all for it :). But I really cannot say that the gamepad is uncomfortable or badly designed, that mostly is a self-fulfilling prophecy on websites as Neogaf from people whom never really gave it a chance. They are just seeking an excuse not to buy the system, and even if Nintendo dropped the price, dropped the pad they would find something else to whine about. Basically the majority of gamers are just set in their ways and will not buy the system anyway.

I do hope they can increase the range a bit though.

Exactly this. Doesn't only apply to the WiiU though. A lot of people are all talk.

Well I just got done with a marathon SSB session with a friend and I used the GamePad as I only have one additional Pro controller. I had no problem using it for about 5 hours, minus the damn battery dying a few times. I ordered the bigger battery for it, and I'll probably get another Pro controller just for MP gaming.

cant see nintendo dropping the game pad, they made their bed and have so far produced the best games of this gen and probably some of Nintendo's best work in years.

I see a lot of people always use the excuse of "I am not buying the Wii U for just one game" but will buy a system that doesn't have games or when games are released, need endless patches to fix numerous glitches so the game will perform at a Super Next Gen 30FPS.

Oh yes, all those people with the excuse:"The PS4 is an investment!". That just cracked me up, no game console is good investment, it just is fun. It really is odd, as Nintendo made hit after hit in quality and still people act like there is nothing to play on it. Yet when you check what you actually can play on the PS4 then it just pales in comparison. Sure multiplatform titles and if you like games like Call of Duty. But simple pick up and play game play is almost non existent. Just the other day I was cursing and screaming at an Xbox One trying to play Forza 5. All that talking, all those load times, each time that Jeremy Clarckson had to give me his BLOODY OPINION! and other games werent much better. There are so many tutorials and how to plays that you wonder why people think the gameplay is so "good!".

Good gameplay is "pick up and play!" with some inventive gameplay mechanics to help you master the more trying things. It was then I realised that I was bloody spoiled by the Wii U and its "Just pick it up, no install times.. and just play.". I literally was screaming at that bloody game after 2 hours of waiting and like 15 minutes of actual racing. Seriously who thinks it is a good idea to have Jeremy Clarckson talk to you all the time or to put in tutorials that YOU CANNOT SKIP until the narrator is done talking!?

PS4 is a investment lol.
Yes but not a good one ;). An investment usually means you would like to at least get your money back in the long run ;).
I would say it is a purchase, and maybe a good one. But a good investment? Nope no console is that ;).
