Capcom announced today that its upcoming Resident Evil remake, which it calls the "definitive version" of the acclaimed horror game, will be released on January 20, 2015. Previously, we knew only that it was going to be released sometime in early 2015.

The publisher also confirmed pricing details for the Resident Evil remake today, revealing that it will sell for $20 across all platforms:Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

$20 isn't to bad i guess. I'm really looking forward to this, missed the GC re-master, I loved the first RE. hopefully it holds up...

It was certainly the best RE to date, but that gameplay is just too archaic today.

I think it has a choice of the classic "tank" controls or more a "modern" control scheme. Other than the controls I think the gameplay suits the first few entries well. We'll see if I'm viewing the game through rosé coloured glasses though...

I loved the game the first few times (PSX,PSX Directors) and then the GCN version but I think now I am done with that game. Especially if it still plays the same. Nope. Give me a new one that is scary and plays like a mix of RE4 and Gears and I would be very happy.

I have bought Resident Evil enough already and to be honest this re-re-release looks just marginally better than the GC version from 10 years ago.

Bring it on! I typically don't bother with simple "HD remakes" but I feel that REmake (lol, irony) offers enough additions and changes to the original RE1 to warrant it as a significant entry in the series, worthy of a spot in my library. Of course, if I still owned the GC version I wouldn't get this newest one again, but it so happens that I sold all my GC stuff a while ago so I definitely look forward to picking this up on PS3 and adding it back to my modest Resident Evil collection.

These games are all-time classics to me. I can say as a person currently playing through Dino Crisis [PS1] only now for the first time and STILL loving it, the survival-horror genre (tank controls and all) will always be one of my favorites!

It's already out. It's called The Evil Within.

I haven't played it since the RE "Directors Cut" on the PS1. I usually don't partake in the Capcom franchise milk-a-thons.

I beat the original after 2 and 3 lolololol

Will this have any new content not in the GC remake?

Agreed.

There wasn't anything creepy about the game. The biggest tension in the game is fighting the controls and hoping you aimed correctly by pressing the right amount of "pivot left" or "pivot right".

If the game had smooth controls, it would be a cakewalk.

For $20 I could see myself picking it up eventually. I actually never played any of the early Resident Evil's. Could be nice seeing the roots as long as the price is low enough, which it seems to be.

Not sure how tidied up the controls are, but the gameplay is strict. Your player moves in a pivot style. Think of it like driving a tank. You also cannot move while you shoot. Instead your player pulls out a pistol or shotgun and their legs are frozen to the ground until you holster it. But while locked in place, you can still turn left or right (pivot) to aim.

One advantage of releasing it on new systems is that the loading screens should be fast (or non-existent). The old PS1 games had huge load times, so many rooms you go to had a "door opening" visual which hid the loading time. Much better than saying...... Loading..... please wait.

But assuming loading times are super quick, it will make playing the game move more swiftly as you go from area to area.

Yeah I've seen some gameplay before. Definitely not something I'd want in most games, but if I do end up getting it it'd at least be a nice change of pace.

It plays very different. Very few games play that way. Heck, even in old ass tank simulators you can still strafe! So in essence, a 10 ton tank is more mobile than a human. lol

I'm hoping the loading is sped up. Nothing like running from one loading screen to the next in the smaller rooms.

I thought that they were going to offer a choice on control styles, new and old?
