Rob Zombie: The Munsters - This September On Netflix

I'm cool with this, between Dragula and the commentary he did for Scream Factory's Munster, Go Home release, he's obviously a huge fan.

60s were a time of shameless rip-offs that were nearly or sometimes as good as the original. I was always an Addams Family guy, and would happily remake that series if I were in Hollywood, as it's still better than any of the movies that followed... Munsters is good for other reasons, and the main one being how shamelessly blunt it is about exactly WHAT it is. Oh, and it was mostly good because of Fred Guinn, the star. He was absolutely fantastic. You cannot have The Munsters without him. It just doesn't work, IMO.

Other good 60s shameless rip-offs:
  • The Outer Limits from The Twilight Zone
  • I Dream of Jeanie from Bewitched
  • The Monkeys from The Beatles: Help

First Addams family movie was awesome.

It was good. It definitely worked.. I was probably just too attached to the original cast. I just mostly didn't like their Uncle Fester, and still definitely prefer the Morticia from the show. Raul Julia was class, though! ...and obviously they found the Wednesday who was 100% more the that character than anyone, even the original comic strip, Christina Ricci. Movie was good, and deserves a rewatch, as it's been a while. I'm just a bigger fan of the show, in part because of how ahead of its time it was.

Back on topic, Fred Guinn was so good as Herman Munster, I remember as a teen when after watching My Cousin Vinny for the second time, my mom telling me that the judge was Fred Guinn, the man who played Herman Munster, I just couldn't believe this. She had to say his name to convince me, and I still wasn't positive she was right, at the time. More because of personality than how different he looked in makeup.

I agree about how good Fred Guinn, and the whole original cast, was. I recall watching a remake Munsters series in the late '80's or early '90's that didn't last long, it wasn't the same.

The Munster, Go Home Blu-ray also comes with the TV movie, Munsters' Revenge from the early '80's. They understandably had to replace Eddie and Marilyn, and it doesn't feel the same. I'm still open to see what Rob Zombie might do with it though, as it will be a pretty big departure for him. An animated 'El Superbeasto' style Munsters movie could be interesting.

He was also in Pet Semetary

I came in here to say "he's going to put his wife in it isn't he?"

But that question was already answered by the OP's initial post

If they can get actors that can pull off Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis, it has a shot. The rest of the cast I'm not too worried about. Despite appearances, the performance of Lily Monster felt more like average mom, same for the rest of the family. Which was sort of the point. Despite appearances they were just normal people. Still though, Fred Munster and Grandpa were the clearly the draw of the show. Personally, I'd love to see a Munsters meets the Adams Family spin-off one day. I think that'd be a ton of fun to watch.
