Sales Comparisons v. 1.8

XBO will win Dec. Hopefully MS does a permanent price drop soon or that gain will be for nothing.

I'm thinking this month was their planned test to see how the Xbox One can do at the same price as the PS4 after its great Holiday season.

If the PS4 beats the XB1 by a decent amount this month (January NPD), then I could see MS announcing an Evolve bundle for $350 in February.

The Xbox One will win December in a landslide victory. This holiday belongs to Microsoft.

I think if MS doesn't announce worldwide sales figures after this holiday, it will be an admission of defeat. If they do, we can compare them to the PS4 pretty easily.

@ Flynn

and this here is why I find your post a joy to read: http://unionvgf.com/index.php?posts/318144/

MS took a major hit to the bow which resulted in them having to price their platform at a loss for the holidays in order to stay in the game in a region(s) to which they used to dominate, and somehow you find this to be a great thing? if you don't succeed at anything else, you would make a phenomenal flight attendant; even when your airline is taking a nose dive, you remain the most positive even when all hope is completely lost.

Xbox One is beating Xbox 360 on all levels. Generation over generation, we're doing much better. We're beating all of our internal targets.

Sony's knocking it out of the park on the sales numbers, but the most sales doesn't equate to the best product. The most sales doesn't equate to the most high-grade games. The most sales doesn't equate to the best services, the most cutting edge technology (which is not just the number of pixels, or how those pixels are shaded), or the platform with the brightest future.

- We have more high-grade games. It's just a fact. It's math.
- Our service is more stable, and built from significantly more systems over the face of the earth. When both PSN and Xbox Live were attacked, LIVE recovered significantly faster. LIVE customers have never had their identities stolen en mass. It's a better service.
- Our services are better engineered. The voice chat is cross-platform, and cloud hosted. It frees up resources on the console. Sony's isn't, and doesn't.
- The cloud compute SDK is something Sony doesn't have, and can't compete with. Few companies in the world can. Sure it's in its infancy, but it's already making a difference. Drivatar's in the Forza games beats driver AI in any other driving game to date.
- We're adding more features, far more frequently than Sony. Our updates are meaningful changes, and they're constant. Our customers get more out of their purchase than Sony's customers in that sense.
- Kinect is something I never want to be without. It makes entertainment significantly smoother and easier. I never have to sign in manually, nor does my wife. It just works. I can use my voice to control things in a meaningful way, and it works. I can control my entire living room with my voice. It's a powerful, yet natural feeling - and Sony can't compete on that level.

I love what we've got. Xbox 360 sold more than Xbox OG, and Xbox One is selling much more than Xbox 360. While PS4's doing great right now, this generation is still young and a lot can change. We've got something to prove, we've got the best games, we've got the best services (by a wide degree), we've got the most future-oriented ecosystem, and even though Sony's brand is a powerful one across the globe and they made incredibly smart choices early on to gain the core gamers trust and wallet vote - they're in a worse position long-term this generation. When these consoles start hitting the sub $200 range, we'll have a system with likely more AAA exclusives (if the last two years are any indication), we'll have a far better network of services, we'll have indiscernibly good (visually) cross plats with superior services/features, we'll have made significantly more improvements to the OS, the system, etc., and we'll have a true-multitasking family entertainment center for all. We're the better product for more people... and I think that will be proven out over the course of this generation... much more so as the years go on.

So yeah, I don't like being in second place... and it motivates me personally in my job... but I love where we are. We've got the best game system in the world. I had a PS4, and it feels like a polished Xbox 360. Sony did a great job taking what we did last gen, and refining it. But we grew. Xbox One is a step beyond, and a step above.

The future of Xbox is bright, and from what I'm seeing from Sony - I like our odds. ;-)

According to Metacritic there are...

21 PS4 games rated 85 or higher.
14 XBO games rated 85 or higher.

According to Gamerankings there are...

28 PS4 games rated 80 or higher.
9 XBO games rated 80 or higher.

It's just math baby.

Notice the subtleties of my terminology/phrasing.

Indie games are low grade titles. If it didn't take a big team and millions of dollars to make, it's factually a different grade experience. Nothing wrong with low grade games - they can be very high quality, but they are smaller in scope, complexity, visuals, etc.

Metacritic gives subjective glimpses at quality, not grade. A solitaire game could score higher than Uncharted 3, but that wouldn't make it comparable in terms of the grade of experience.

I agree with all of this, especially the bold. All fun aside. Xbox One and PS4 both being great consoles with amazing games in the coming years. Xbox One just wins on every level for me. I was just playing an original Xbox game on my 360 and i was thinking to myself. "Do i really need anything other than the Xbox brand?". I have so many games to enjoy, past and present, on Xbox consoles alone. It's ridiculous. The thought of how good the X1 already is and where it's going is mind blowing. Microsoft has done an incredible job in moving the brand along since 2001. Gradual improvement. Each and every year. The Xbox was a foot in the door, the 360 got into the house, and the Xbox One is taking over the living room. Best gaming machine and entertainment device. Bar none.

Now obviously, we all have our opinions and that's why we're here. But i can't understand, as hard as it is to choose between Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, or PC, how one's decision doesn't always come back to Xbox winning out in the end. I buy them all because i don't want to miss out on great games. But if i had to choose one, there's only one and that's the Xbox One. It would be a tougher choice if my friends were mostly PS gamers but they're not. If PlayStation had the better controller but it doesn't. If trophies were the innovation that this hobby needed and weren't a copy cat system to achievements but they're not. If Halo, Gears, and Forza weren't as amazing as they are but they are. If Microsoft was still going in the Kinect focus direction, which was fine, you have to make money and evolve as a company, but they're not. With Spencer in charge there's a renewed focus on games. I just wonder, how any gamer could chose something other than Xbox. It's just so damn good. Top to bottom. 2001-2015 and beyond. The future is bright.

The circle is complete.

I think the permanent price drop will get announced at E3. Up until then, I can see Microsoft focussing on bundle promotions.

We know ps4 beat X1 world wide.

The mans' gotta point.

Prove it.

They hardly mention it. Have no games coming for it and even Rare are no longer stuck being a Kinect only dev and sales increased after Kinect was removed from the console.

Prove other wise.

Ketto said, "too bad MS thinks gamers should be without it [Kinect]".

Neither of you have offered any reason to believe that statement is true. It's a hollow assertion. Nothing more.

So I'll patiently wait for either of you to substantiate your currently baseless assertions.

How about proving kinect is a resounding success and have a future. Flynn? What are the coming games that will make use of kinect? Also do not name indies as you mentioned they are low grade games.

I never made that claim, so why should I try to prove something I never claimed?

Ketto claimed MS thinks gamers should be without Kinect.

He didn't claim it was a failure.
He didn't claim it was a success.
He didn't claim games aren't coming out for it.
He didn't claim Xbox One is selling better without it.

He made a laughably uninformed and unprovable statement. It's not even a coherent claim. Microsoft doesn't "think", people think.
