Anyways to answer the question I'm really enjoying it. With a good crew you can have hours of fun.

Does it need more content? Yes but it's a solid start for what's hopefully a new franchise.

Assaulting Skull forts is no joke. Tried it with my 3 man crew and got wiped out. From the sea we took out the exterior cannons then tried to storm the beach by foot. We got over run with skeletons then another well stocked galleon sank our ship and killed us.

Yep it's good fun.

Apparently throwing water on some skeletons weakens them

I think a big issue this game has is there is no real incentive to play it. Everything you earn is essentially sold on cosmetic stuff. This make the lacking and repetitive voyage system stand out as a negative. Other games you could call repetitive, like COD, have progression systems that make the repetitveness a means to end with meaningful unlocks and negates a lot of that negativity.

The skull forts are ridiculously unbalanced, especially for something that is meant to promote large scale PvP warfare. And all you get is the same loot you sell for gold that you only buy cosmetics with.

The threat of other attacking players is a big risk when you attack a skull fort. The way to beat them is to first take out the towers and then park up the shop with your cannons facing onto an area where you can lead the skeletons into them. Then one or two people stay on the ship firing the cannons while the others bait the skeletons. It’s important to keep at least one crew on the ship at all times. If everyone dies on the island the event resets. Some skeletons need to be wet to be destroyed, others need to be dry and others again need to have the lantern shined on them (these ones are the worst as they are completely invulnerable when not exposed to lantern light).

I bet you are.

I knew none of this. I'll try the strategy you guys put out. We'll see how far my crew get before frustration kicks in.

I'm actually loving the game, but I do acknowledge that it has a ways to go before it can become more main stream.

The ship combat is a lot of fun and actually very rewarding when you start to try more tactics than just steer your ship parallel to the enemy ship. Learning different ways to cross their T, learning when and how to use the anchor to give you a better angle or get someone off your tail, etc, is a lot of fun. I just started experimenting on ways to use gunpowder barrels. There are a couple of good videos on YouTube that show good strategies for taking taking out a galleon with a sloop.

Also, as I said in an earlier post, this game has a tendency to create memorable moments that stick with you. They're stories that you want to share with you buddies who missed the session. Very few games this gen can say that.

That being said, I would like some more to work towards besides a new hat or sails fir my ship. Nothing game breaking or anything, but a shovel that digs a little faster or bail bucket that holds just a tiny bit more water.

What I would really love to see would be horizontal progression. Like maybe you can add a single front facing cannon, but your ship runs slower to balance it out. Little things like that that you can work towards that doesn't put people on an i even playing field.

Maybe that's nit a good idea, but something like that.

In spite of some people genuinely meh and some people writing this off without even playing it, this game has become the biggest new Microsoft 1st party game in quite some time. A lot of people I know are talking about this game. I'm hearing from people at my work that I didn't even know were gamers, talking about their experiences in Sea of Thieves.

On the negative side, I also want to say that the last time I played, I did not encounter another ship for the entire 3 hours played. I'm not sure if they are trying to un-burden the servers or what. I never once saw this on the Tech Alpha or Beta. About half way through and on, I was just blatantly trying to get into battle with full lights on. I couldn't see any activity out there at all. Hopefully they get some of this stuff worked out in tomorrow's patch.

Attacked a skull fort with a full ships of cannonballs, bananas and boards. We destroyed 3 galleons, one sloop, and the fort itself. When it was all said and done, we had 3 cannonballs, 5 bananas and no boards left.

Afterwards we all went to an outpost and got blind stinking drunk.

Sea of Thieves: How Player Progression Works:

Game is holding up pretty well in terms of viewers on Twitch

6 days after launch? We haven't even gotten past week 1 of release. I mean, what were it's numbers for the previous 6 days?

You cant gage any kind of meaningful trend at this point. Let's see how it's doing at one month and then check back in at the end of month number two.

I play on PC and Xbox One X and I can tell you that PvP gun battles are a joke. PC is so much more dominating it's nuts. I rarely play on the Xbox anymore.

Two of the guys I’ve been crewing with are PC players and yep, they both destroy other console players in PvP. I’ve been on the receiving end of it as well. It doesn’t bother me at all but I wonder if it will become a thing with the community.

I'm not saying a controller is any match for a KB/Mouse, but I do wish they would throw us Xbox One X users a bone with a 1080p (or adaptive res) 60fps mode.

This is complete bull****. I’m all for allowing k/m on Xbox but there needs to be filters. Initially I thought SOT wouldn’t be impacted by the extra level of control due to how clunky combat was and I assumed combat was made clunky intentionally for that reason.

Unfortunately I haven’t experienced it first hand because I haven’t been able to find a PvP matchup.

This game is such a launch disappointment. Maybe Microsoft’s biggest disappointment when factoring expectations in well over a decade. Might have to go back to Too Human. Maybe Brute Force to find something this hyped that turned out this mediocre.
