Shooting at Washington Naval Yard

People are always looking for reasons to blame and make sense out of these senseless murders. It's a natural emotional response, but there will never be a clear black and white answer.

I'm sure it's a combination of things, especially since be sought help on two previous occasions for 'hearing voices' in his head.

But the amazing thing to me is the one common thing that almost every school/workplace shooting has in common, and is rarely discussed in the press, is that the shooter(s) are either taking or in withdrawal from psych meds, specifically anti-depressants (the class known as SSRIs). Columbine, Virginia tech, Chris Benoit, most likely Newtown (medical records sealed so far)...the list goes on. The website http://ssristories.com/ lists specifically over 4,800 incidents like this, and the type of med the person was taking. They are known to increase suicide rates, and I'm absolutely positive this guy had to either be on something, or just coming off something.

Yeah, definitely. The effects of those drugs are pretty alarming, especially since they're handed out like candy.

I had some unrelated pain illness about 8 years ago and was required by my insurance to see a psychiatrist. Lady was a nutjob quack, handed out SSRIs like they were going out of style. One made me hear voices, another gave me horrific sadistic nightmares, and one made me feel like I was on speed - grinding my teeth and talking a mile a minute(not sure if it was an SSRI, don't recall) and the doctor said it was "normal" and an improvement because I'm not a morning person and am quiet and relaxed at 7am.

But obviously that was the effect of those drugs used on someone improperly. Screwing with normal levels in my brain and making them abnormal. Still, really scary stuff.

Really sit down and think about why that is (that's it's not covered).

Oh I work in the medical field...I'm well aware, unfortunately. Like most overprescribed meds, money talks.....or in this case stops people from talking.

The fact that something so obvious is so unknown to the regular public shows how strongly that info is suppressed. Amazing, really.

And damn, Darkfire...that is some wild stuff. Did you have hard time getting off of them?

I quit them cold turkey, which is a terrible thing to do but they made me feel so bad and I was fed up with the doctor. I went through severe withdrawal(cold sweats, feeling like garbage IIRC). Crazy stuff.

We were just talking about these in class today, the long term effects of SSRI's are so f***ed up it's sad. Thank God you got off them when you did, once you're on them for so long, your brain can no longer function as it should without them.
