Side by Side comparison Xbox1 and PS4

Haven't seen a topic like this before and thought I would post it up in the new forum, as more topics the better :)

This one seems to be right as they both got the symbols on them. I want to know though how can the PS4 be so much smaller then the Xbox1 when the Power brick is inside the PS4. Why the heck is the Xbox1 so much bigger and the brick is external on the X1 isn't it ?

I'm a little bit worried the PS4 might have heating issues, I hope they got a good cooling system in that thing.

I don't know if this is accurate as the Xbox1 doesn't have the symbol on it , but the PS4 sure does look alot smaller.

I thought I would chuck the controllers in as well but this is mainly about the consoles.

The PS4's wide ventilation design should be efficient. Heating shouldn't be an issue at all.

Just for fun... power-brick comparison behind the bench.
If I were a hardware designer I'd put 4 USB-slots in that thing. :)

Not too worried about heat in PS4, Sony usually are pretty good about that - and probably have compared it up and down with heatbuildup compared to PS3-slim, and similar products..
It's usually the diskdrive/laser wich is prone to break in PlayStation. And they havn't overclocked the CPU and GPU. :-/

The size doesn't matter. It's the quality of the heatsink and fans that does. Ventilation design also plays a part too. Sony's ventilation design is looking nice. My 670 FTW graphics card has the same design on the outside.

Don't think size matters as much as people are making out; I think it's more of 'another dig towards MS'; I'm not saying the OP has this view btw ;)

I think the size and power brick are down to the failures of the Xbox 360 at launch, I don't think they can afford a repeat of that disaster especially with the amount of PR heat the XB1 has had, again I'm not fussed it's going to sit in my unit and I'm barely going to refer to it unless I'm changing games or syncing.

So what makes the Xbox1 so big then, since the power brick is on the outside. They must have some industrial fans inside that thing just incase because of the heat issues from the 360

It's also weird seeing the PS4 controller that big, becuase other pics I saw it looked smaller. It does look pretty big in that pic.

Agreed. That PS4 controller looks huge.

I really wish these consoles weren't so expensive, I would love to own both. They both look great in my opinion.

I don't like the way the XB1 controller looks. It looks like a cheap 3rd party controller.

I reckon the Xbox1 control looks like one of those RAZOR brand controllers. I haven't held it, but to me it looks like a cross between the old original Xbox controller and the 360 controller

Yeah not sure if I'm digging the design of the XB1 controller either. I'll hold off judgement until I actually get one in my hands though.

The controllers look like they're spooning.

I'm concerned about heating issues on the PS4, too, although I am assuming the engineers took pains to avoid that, considering what happened to MS last round.

I find it stupid that the Xbox One cannot be stood up horizontal.

I don't mind it. I think the overall look of the Xbox One just says "I'm more than just a console, I'm an entertainment device". I like that.

I want that DS4. (I'll take the PS4 as well, but man, the DS4 looks like such an improvement.)

I find both systems ugly. Not only the design but even shape wise. Maybe they look different when you have them in front of you as opposed to looking at them on pictures.

Anywho, "it's what's on the inside that counts". Can't wait to have both of them and play me some Killzone, Battlefield, Halo, GTAV (If released), InFamous, and many more multi and exclusives mid-next year.

The X1 looks large next to the PS4, but it's roughly the same size as the ol fat PS3. The DS4 looks too big to me, the X1 controller is roughly the same size as the 360 controller, that DS4 is huge..but I think that was a needed change as the DS3 was too small imo.

I'll have to try out both of those controllers. I've always been partial to the 360 controller but the new ps4 looks a lot better. I'll need to hear how loud each are too. I can't stand loud electronics.

On one video, someone complained the shoulder buttons, not triggers, on the XB1 controller clicked pretty loudly.

Both consoles look decent enough. Will only matter how they look along side the other electro goodies on the shelf. I'm most interested in checking out the DS4 though. I didn't have a big problem with the DS3 but this looks so much better.

I think of agree with this. I also think the PS4 controller isn't too hot either. I wish Sony stuck with just revising the classic DualShock controller over fleshing out this brand new design they have with the PS4.

from what I gather the xb1 chassis is so big because it uses a much bigger fan that can run slower and still cool, but the effect is that it's basically silent. Articles I've read say that the xb1 is very quiet. Also, it's intended to be constantly on like a cable box or other appliance, and even when "off" is still just running in a lower power state so that when you turn it on it's up instantly (no boot process).

i have read user comments that ps4 is also silent. it also has a low-power mode

I'm guessing the X1 doesn't stand up vertically because it is so tall and would probably be easy to fall down. I'm sure MS will bring out a slim version 1 day and will make it stand up.
