Man beats drunk-driving charge in Sweden because he's Asian

The unidentified 63-year-old was acquitted from driving while intoxicated because, the court noted, 'different ethnic groups react differently to alcohol,' and it couldn't be proven that he had in fact been driving the car while being eight times drunker than Sweden's legal limit.

A man in Sweden got out of a drunk-driving charge because he is Asian.

A court in Karlskrona, southern Sweden, decided to acquit the 63-year-old because "different ethnic groups react differently to alcohol".

He was reported to police by a gas station assistant while filling his car.

Traced to his home, officers found him to be eight times over the legal limit in Sweden.
The Asian man had been drinking whiskey and beer, reported The Local.

He denied the charges and claimed it could not be proved that he had been, in fact, driving.

The case was dropped, but the court noted that it was "considered general knowledge" that people from different ethnic groups reacted in different ways to alcohol.

It is not the first time someone has beaten a drunk-driving charge in Sweden in such an unusual circumstance, reports The Local.

Last year one driver got off such a charge because it was found he was driving in his sleep.

Its why a married my wife. she lacks the gene and gets silly on a half glass of wine. such a cheap date

Almost as bad as that kid who got off going to jail for running someone over (and killing them) because his defense was...."I'm too entitled and rich so I didn't know any better"

.....this is the world we live in....

Kind of like a lot of professional athletes.

Wow. If I told a the judge "it could not be proved that he had been drinking and driving," they would tell me "f*** you" and trust the integrity of the cop's word over mine. And that's the most racist legal court ruling if I've ever seen one. Maybe this explains why Sweden had this supposed low crime rate (cough cough). What a fraudulent and broken system.

It's possible the newspaper story is highlighting the Asian angle for the absurdity of it, when actually the judge was dismissing the case based primarily on the fact that he was at home at the time the police found him, not behind the wheel. Maybe they couldn't prove he was driving (he says that in the article, actually). They had the gas station attendant's word for it, but maybe that wasn't enough.

I mean, if you can't prove he was driving the car, that's enough to acquit him right there. The article does in fact include that as one of the reasons he was let go (he was aquitted because of the Asian thing "and it couldn't be proven that he had in fact been driving the car.") I'm guessing the Asian angle was secondary in the actual case, but it is given top billing here for the sake of making it sound weird or bizarre.

Same would happen in the US or other major countries. If you want to convict someone of drunk driving, you've got to prove they were driving.

Not all Asians lack the alcohol tolerance gene, just a big chunk (like 25%) so it wouldn't be cause to acquit someone.

Now that just doesn't make any sense at all. The rest of this thread is grounded in logical facts but your theory is really stretching it.
