Skyrim

Got in on the Amazon deal for Skyrim Remastered for PS4 @ $24.99 shipped. That was the price I was hoping for. All that is left is a great deal on Tomb Raider 20th. Let's see that makes about 10 games I have bought in the past week because of amazing deals. Nuts to have so much gaming in front of me, I think I am going to pass on the Xbox One S just because of no time to play. Maybe by Scorpio release I will be caught up.
Yeah it's really crazy. At the rate I'm going I'll be caught up around the time the PS8/Xbox Whatever come out.

Glad some others here will finally be playing this game! It was well worth the full price for me, massive steak for $30 or less!

What was your backlog like before this week? :p

Good game. The mods make it better too. Unlimited sprint and the alternate start mods are great.

Big downer is that the screen tears awfully just like last gen's version. The visuals and frame rate are tidied up, but pan the camera left or right and it's that weird choppy effect. It's not blur where is smooths it out like Mass Effect, but that weird jaggy kind of camera panning. Not sure what the technical term for it is.... but let's just call it Awful.

Mods I installed

- Unofficial patch
- Unlimited sprint
- Unlimited weapon soul charges
- Alternate start
- One of the graphical landscape overhauls
- Better water
- Better eyes
- Open cities (you can smoothly go into/out of cities. No load screens. But buildings and caves still have them)
- A few content mods like Falskaar and Forgotten City
- Ring of super carrying weight (make note the mod maker placed it at a store at Whiterun and costs 200 gold! I started the game at Solitude so I have to make a mad dash to Whiterun to buy it)
- All merchants have 10,000 gold to make it automatic to sell off stuff

Missed that deal now i'm pissed. I bought it for $30 on the PS store. Oh well, i just didn't want to pay full price for it. Great game but really? $60 for an old game with a new coat of paint is ridiculous with all these other games to buy.

This has me hyped.

It's difficult to describe, I feel his pain. Pretty cool, this guy basically has no experience playing this and he's already moving around pretty good, he hits the wrong buttons a few times, but I'm really impressed.

So previews for Skyrim VR are good, then? I thought they were pretty mixed, earlier.

Watching that preview, it looks like the Move controls could take some getting used to. There were also some times when the Move controllers themselves appeared on screen (e.g., when he was swimming), which looked a little odd.

I'm interested to see how this experiment works out. A massive open-world RPG in VR. I can't see myself going through Skyrim a third time, but it makes me hopeful for future projects.

The newest build previews went from mixed to great. The hands turn to move controllers when you have nothing equipped, it's a smart inductor. I thought he was getting around well for only 30min, by the end he had it down

Remember what you see on the social screen is not what we are experiencing in VR. It's a weird off angle snippet and doesnt capture in FOV.

Good news about the previews being so positive.

Hands turning into controllers is immersion-breaking. Not that the disembodied hands look all that good either, but I think they're better than controllers.

You're right that what we see on screen isn't what someone in VR sees. It's a very hard thing to sell to someone who doesn't have VR, because on a 2-D screen, all we see is an awkward-looking version of Skyrim.

I think the hands turning into controllers informs me instantly "I can't attack." There might be settings for it too though. That's one thing I noticed is there are tons of options with the newer VR games.

Another option is playing with the controller just as you would Skyrim, but you get the added immersion of stepping inside the world. In RE7 this sold me alone without motion controls. It might be an option for some.

One of the other huge advantages is, 60fps on console for the first time.

I don't think this is the "final" build, but close.

A few takeaways:

Scale and immersion. I like that the journalists are saying the same sort of things, "I've been here before, but in VR its just another level." They talk about how surreal it is being IN the world.

It's highly customizable. You don't like a button placement? You can change it. Movement options are highly customizable as well. Teleport, DS4 full control or Move full control. I think I'll go Move controllers and smooth turning/head tracking at first.

It's Skyrim. When people enter doors etc, they fade away. Has some of the glitchy feel of course.

Super pumped. I even preordered and that's not my style. First time playing this in 60fps with unprecedented scale.

It does sound like Skyrim Vr is very much improved over those first demos.

The way he describes it makes me want to experience it for myself -- "being there" in Riverwood, for instance, or in the caverns. And how everything looks bigger, because you're in the scene. That would be fascinating.

So I read it releases Nov. 17th, next Friday. I'll be watching the reviews.

I can't wait. I'm thinking the reviews will be all over the place for one main reason---setup. For people who spend 30min getting the best control scheme for them, it'll probably be an unbelievable experience. But reviewers are hasty and busy people and doubt most of them will take time to get it right as a VR owner would. For the ones that do, it'll be apparent to me by their verbiage. It could have unforeseen issues, who knows.

I can't think of the last time I was this hyped for a game.

This includes the recently announced PlayStation VR Gran Turismo Sport Bundle at $299.99 USD (MSRP) and PlayStation VR Skyrim VR Bundle at $349.99 USD (MSRP). There has never been a better time to jump into the driver’s seat in GT Sport for a heightened VR experience, or transport yourself into the virtual open game world of The Elder Scrolls filled with dragon-fighting action.

It's weird, because later in the article, it says "The PlayStation VR Skyrim Bundle will launch alongside the game on November 17 in the U.S. for $449.99 USD and in Canada for $579.99 CAD. If you want to make sure you get your hands on one, pre-order your bundle starting today."

$450 is still not a bad price, for all that.

Is the new model PSVR out yet, the one with the HDR issue fixed?

Yeah, the Skyrim bundle is actually $449. Which is still a good price for all that. I'm thinking about putting down a pre-order. [edit: wrong, it's $350 Nov 19-27]

More info:

The bundle costs $450 USD/$580 CAD and you can pre-order it starting today. [edit: it's $350 Nov 19-27]

The bundle will include the updated version of the PSVR system, which has a revised design enabling stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset, a more streamlined connection cable, and a Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through.

the bundle comes packaged with the PSVR headset, a copy of Skyrim VR which features the Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn add-ons, a PlayStation Camera, and two PlayStation Move controllers.

edit: put down my pre-order. woo.

Put down my pre-order. What the hell. I can always change my mind and cancel, if I want to. But I've been gravitating to PSVR lately, and the Skyrim previews sound great. And this bundle is a good deal.

449.99 is regular deal, but I read it as there is an additional $350 black friday deal coming?

Yes, the Skyrim bundle has the update HDR passthrough.

I'm playing through this again. It's fun. I've made it to Bleak Falls Barrow, I'm inside, getting close to the Claw.

edit: still going. In Ivarstead now, about to go up to see the Greybeards.

Oh, is that right? Maybe I should cancel my pre-order and go for that. $100 difference.

Yeah, you're right. Very cool. I cancelled my Amazon preorder and will wait for the Black Friday sale. Thanks for the heads up.

"Starting November 19 and ending November 27 at participating retailers, pick up a PSVR in either the Gran Turismo Sport bundle for $300, or the Skyrim VR bundle for $350."

Supersampling on Pro confirmed for Skyrim VR.

I didn't realize you could get supersampling on VR as well as on a normal TV. That's good. Supersampling is a nice bonus.

It's a big bonus. I noticed a difference instantly. There's still a slight blur to games, but immersion is the trade-off.
