Just have a question for you all, are you a game hoarder or are you very selective about what you buy?

I wanted to ask this after realizing that I have a very weird problem...I have too many games! It honestly bothers me a bit. I was always somebody that was more selective about what I purchased, but a year or two ago something changed...I started focusing on buying games when they were cheap. So over the course of that time, I bought a ton of games that ranged anywhere from $3 to $10. Seemed like a win/win at the time.

However, now that I'm going to get an Xbox One, I thought I would start trying to make my way through my now considerable backlog and that led me to have a realization: I would rather play a game that I love for the third time than play through a mediocre game once!

It happened as I was trying to make my through Remember Me. I'm kind of enjoying myself, it's not bad but not great. I am looking forward to getting to the next game I play through though. Then I decided to take a break and go through the last couple missions of Black Flag, and boy is that game a blast to play! The stealth, the action, the graphics....all superb. Then it hit me that I have a lot of these mediocre games, and I'm not sure I want to take the time to go through them all. Problem is, they all trade in for like 25 cents lol, so I'm kind of stuck with them.

Lesson learned though because next generation I'm going back to being a picky gamer for sure. What is your philosophy on buying games?

I'm not super picky, but I also don't buy an over abundance of games. Last gen I think I bought/received like 35 total not counting XBLA games. Most at full price.

I have almost the same dilemma, OP. I am an unapologetic game collector, which means I buy games that I think are cool even though I may never play them. Some are great deals, some are niche games I want to support. For the new gen, I'm trying my hardest to be more selective. I'm doing better, but we'll see how I do once the floodgates open with new releases the next year or so.

Whatever the case, I make sure I don't jeopardize my family by spending too much and enjoy my hobby the way I can.

I'm more selective for the most part, more because of time constraints. I'd love to try a bunch of games, but now I tend to stick with ones I know I will really enjoy. I used to buy games and never finish them (still do, but not as much).

That said I'm all about the impulse buy. You just get that urge to play something. I'll suddenly be in the mood for an RPG or something (that normally I don't like), then I buy on impulse and barely play.

I buy too many games too. Although I do not horde them. I use the second hand market to help subsidize this expensive habit. This will be changing this gen though. I am going to try and bit more selective. Especially when buying games day 1.

Games I bought this year
-Brothers, tales of 2 sons (PC)
-Batman:AC (360)
- Far Cry (PC)
- Diablo III: Reaper of Souls (PC)
- The Whispered World (PC)
- Dishonored: Game of the year edition (360)

Only Diablo III Reaper of Souls were bought at full price. :D

Gaming is cheap for me. & I have issue finish games I already own (& that's not a lot), so I can be super selective.

That's the way to do it, selective and cheap! I've learned that buying a game is a real time commitment. I mean if you buy 5 games, even at $5 a piece, you have to consider that's probably 40-50 hours of gaming time at least. That's a lot!! If those games aren't great, it feels like wasted time in the end.

Relatively selective... but I've got a backlog now so I don't know how selective I was.

When I was younger (& obviously more time), I had to like play every critically acclaimed game. Nowadays, no biggie. If a critically game isn't available on a platform I own, so be it. I will not buy a new platform to play a few acclaimed games. But in defence, I normally pick platform that best suited my taste.

360 & PC doing fine for me so far. There are time when I was in town & think of picking up a X1 or PS4, then I remember I have a backlog of games to play.

If I want it, I buy it.

I'm selective with console games, but a game hoarder with pc games....because they are so cheap in price. I have a ton of pc games in steam, origin, amazon, GoG and Gamefly.

I really need to practice some self control and stop buying games just because they come out at sometime $5 or less.

Oh those steam sales, have bought way too much games, 400 + games on steam and increasing, a few on origin that not can find on steam and of console games I would think have about 100 + .

I have 9 in my steamy lifetime, But I did bought the first steam game, halflife 2!

When I was younger I bought tons of games. Now with time constraints I usually only buy games that I know that I'm going to play/like. Now that my oldest son is starting to play video games I find that we are buying more games though...

Buy and sell/trade works best for me.

Hunt for a Retro-Game store. Maybe trade them in for store credit. Or just sell them.

Hell, I sold off a ton of old comic books for just 5 or 10 cents a piece. Afterward, I had close to $90.

I'm more selective nowadays. I have a few games for the PS3 I haven't played and some I bought on Steam sale. I usually get to them in time. The more I retain and haven't played, the less I'll buy. My next big purchase will be Destiny. If it wasn't MP, I'd probably wait.

yeah over the years I've gotten way to many games and s*** I won't ever play half of them. I got so many games simply cause they were so cheap on clearine sales and the like it's insane.

Yeah definitely more selective now and when I have time. Then I sell or trade the ones I'm done with. I've pretty much decided on just beating the game once then selling or trading in simply because I don't have the time to get 100% trophies on each game.

Started of selective, didn't care all that much for gaming in the PS1/N64/PS2/PS3 era Pro Evolution and all the wrestling games on PS1/N64/PS2 that was it with the occasional dip outside GTA for example same with the PS3 Pro Evo changed to Fifa a few titles like Uncharted, TLOU were added but you get the drift.

Something came over me for a good few months when the Xbox 360 was released but that has been put to bed this generation. I promised myself no backlog.

Current gen I currently own:

PS4: Fifa 14, NBA 2k and Killzone all day one.

The only other game I bought was TLOU remastered but that's only because I got the deal at gamestop to include the original on the PS3 and $30. No brainer.

Xbox One: Forza and Wolfenstein. I also have EA Access.

I'm coming to the end of Wolfenstein now (chapter 13) so I will be buying Metro Redux later on today for the PS4.

Join the club. I think it's safe to say most of us have bought more games then we really need over the years. But hey, we're gamers. That's what we do.

If you have the money, sure, by all means....

Steam......I just don't count. I just impulse buy stuff off there without even thinking.

Consoles. I have a little bit of a backlog, but I got rid of all of my PS3 and 360 stuff to get the X1 and PS4.
I used to just buy anything and everything. I had about 75 retail 360 games and just as many or more XBLA games. I hardly finished any of them.

Im being a lot more selective now. I claim the GwG and PS+ games, but I claim them just to claim them. I dont download them unless I plan on playing it.
I only own one retail PS4 game right now (Injustice Gods Among Us because it was only 8 bux)
I own six XB1 games. DR3, Wolfenstein, Plants vs Zombies, Call of Duty Ghosts (got for $6), Battlefield 4, and Diablo 3.

I have finished DR3, Wolfenstein, and Battlefield. Ghosts is in progress.

I had the same intentions. But I'm failing. I have no family. So it's just my credit card that is jeopardized.

Whew. Spent this weekend finishing up some PC games:

The Walking Dead Season 2
The Wolf Among Us
Spec Ops: The Line
Batman: Arkham Origins

Feels good. Still have a lot to go!

I'm less of a steam impulse buyer and more of a humble bundle impulse buyer. Those are the real best deals for reals.

I used to buy a ton of games but I had to realize I did not have the time to play everything I want. I am much more selective now.

For example, I was playing through Crysis last week after I had bought it cheap on sale. I just realized the game is dated & I wasn't enjoying myself so I deleted it from my hard drive. Life is too short.

I honestly ask myself now every time I buy a game if the game is worth my time. Is the game worth playing or is another title more deserving. No more mediocre titles for me.
